Position Overview
•To manage technical projects including new product design and re-engineering of existing products for improved cost and performance.
•To perform engineering analysis, calculations and detail design of new and existing products.
•To review and verify work of others within the Engineering department under the direction of the Manager.
•To interface with suppliers and customers as required.
Knowledge and Experience
•University Engineering degree. “P. Eng” holder.
•10+ years of progressive engineering design and supervisory experience in an environment that values highly exact engineering designs and quality of production.
•Experience in mechanical design of products, materials properties and selection, stress analysis especially in or related to Power Transmission & Distribution line hardware.
•Experience managing technical projects from concept to production.
•Experience with, and ability to read technical specifications, industry standards and manufacturing documentation.
•Production of accurate, clear detail and assembly drawings using AutoCAD & SolidWorks in compliance with drafting standards.
•Experience with various manufacturing processes, their advantages and limitations including closed die forging and upsetting, stamping, machining, welding, heat treatment, galvanizing and other finishing.
•Experience with mechanical testing equipment, methods and knowledge of ISO9001 Quality System.
•Experience in building cost estimates for manufactured products.
•Practical experience of product application with respect to fit / form / function evaluations and safety assessments.
•Experience working within a technical team and providing guidance to junior staff.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
•Responsible for managing technical projects to completion in a timely and cost-effective manner.
•Responsible for detail design and development of products and processes within defined objectives.
•Performing calculations and layouts required to achieve final design drawings.
•Maintenance of existing product designs including reviews for improvements or cost reductions.
•Create and maintain bills of materials and Slacan design files including specs, drawings, etc.
•Review and approve work by others in the technical team under the direction of the Product Engineering Manager.
•Technical support for customers, suppliers and other departments.
•Other duties as assigned.
