Job Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
Supports business objectives through the design of overhead and underground transmission lines, transmission line standards development and support, construction support of capital and maintenance projects, collaborative work on capital projects with other internal and external entities including Substation Design, Planning, Asset Management, Operations, Legal & Real Estate and Local Government & Community Affairs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities•Serves on capital and maintenance design projects by checking designs submitted by contractors, issuing approved projects for construction and participating in the creation of conceptual transmission line designs and routing.
•May collaborate and review designs created by other Engineers and Associate Engineers.
•Prepares cost estimates, material requisitions, specifications and drawings for internally designed projects.
•Responds to inquiries from Planning or other departments related to existing or future transmission line and substation projects in the ITC footprints.
•Participates on a work team of Transmission Line Design Engineers.
•Participates in work group policy development, policy implementation, negotiation and resolution of issues.
•Collaborates with other engineers and departments which may include consulting, managing projects, developing standards, organizing resources, or maintenance.
•Provides technical support and recommendations to field personnel and contractors for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of system components.
•Provides expertise for projects and committees regarding technical and non-technical matters related to design engineering.
•Generates internal and external reports on various facets of transmission system.
•Attends meetings and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills.
Requirements
•Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
+ Associate Engineer - Co-op/Intern experience at a utility preferred.
+ Engineer - minimum of two (2) years of related experience,
+ Senior Engineer - minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
•Knowledge of electric utility system operations, planning, protection, design, construction and/or maintenance functions preferred.
•Structural and/or Geotechnical coursework preferred for civil engineering majors.
•Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for civil engineering majors.
•Power system coursework preferred for electrical engineering majors.
•Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
•Ability to learn and utilize job specific software.
•Possess sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
•Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.
•Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision in a team environment.
