The Distribution Engineering department is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Engineer to join the Overhead Standards and Planning (OHSP) section. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of electric and electrical facilities or equipment and must be capable of managing multiple projects with shifting priorities while meeting tight deadlines. Strong independent judgment and sound business decision-making skills are essential.As part of the OHSP team, you will collaborate with various field and engineering groups across Con Edison that support the overhead and underground residential distribution systems. OHSP is responsible for:Developing, maintaining, and updating standards and specifications for overhead system design across all voltage classes, including non-network systems such as 4kV grids and auto-loops.Creating and managing equipment drawings and specifications.Evaluating and approving equipment based on vendor testing results.Serving as a critical link between engineering and field operations to ensure alignment and effective implementation.This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the reliability and modernization of the electric distribution system.
- Develops electric distribution designs, electrical facilities/equipment in overhead and/or underground residential distribution systems.
- Serves as a technical consultant within the Company or the industry in his/her field(s) of specialization.
- Uses technical competence to develop designs for equipment improvements and to approve design and fabrication of manufactures equipment in their factories.
- Assists the Electric Operations Regional personnel in the development of solutions to technical problems which involve operations and maintenance.
- Interprets rules, regulations or code requirements. Incorporates requirements when creating or revising engineering specifications.
- Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.
- Takes a first line leadership role when responding to emergency field problems in his / her field of expertise. Has decision-making capability.
- Prepares and teaches technical seminars related to Con Edisons distribution practices
- Ensures recommended designs and equipment to meet the highest environmental standards.
- Performs other engineering related or PSC mandated assignments or projects as required.
- Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
- Assists Senior Engineers or other Distribution Engineering staff in the performance of their tasks as necessary to accomplish the objectives of the Organization.
- Coordinates with Information Resources (IR) to specify and develop the information technology systems necessary to allow engineers and designers to perform analysis and design according to the engineering standards.
- Maintains state-of-the-art technical expertise and job knowledge in assigned discipline area through contact and interaction with leading experts in the technical community
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required

- Bachelor's Degree Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering : Electrical or Mechanical
- 3-5 years Engineering Experience in the design of electrical distribution system, and electrical facilities or equipment Required
- Experience scheduling and controlling small to moderately complex projects and assignments Required
- Engineering specifications development Required
- Electric construction or operations experience Required
- Programming and AutoCAD experience Preferred
- Coordinating and managing multiple projects across different working groups Preferred
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
- Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work in an overhead and URD distribution environment.
- Must be available to work rotating shifts and/or extended hours as operational needs and/or emergencies dictate
