Energy Strategy & Innovation Analyst

What your day might look like:

Analyze new and existing market opportunities, from emerging technologies to evolving customer needs.

Develop and present business cases for strategic initiatives and pilot programs that support innovation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine processes and identify areas for transformation.
Track and report on project performance across a portfolio of innovation pilots—proactively identifying risks and solutions.
Conduct market and industry research to stay ahead of trends and support forward-looking decision-making.
Present insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders and senior leadership with clarity and impact.
Build strong internal relationships across departments to drive alignment and influence strategy.

Minimum Requirements


Energy Strategy & Innovation Analyst

Bachelors' degree in Engineering, Science, Information Technology or a related field

And 2 years of prior relevant experience in the renewable, distributed energy, grid technology, or utility related industry with an understanding of regulatory, technical and business issues.
In lieu of Bachelor's degree, High School/GED plus 6 years directly related experience in the technology, power and/or natural gas sectors with an understanding of regulatory, technical and business issues impacting the industry including renewables, distributed energy and grid technologies.
General knowledge and understanding of one or more emerging energy technologies and related business models, such as solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, energy management software platforms etc.



Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of business case components and ability to produce and present business cases to team leadership.
Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to research initiatives and stay current with industry trends & developments.
Ability to collect and analyze data of low to medium complexity with small number of correlations or variables.
Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills to effectively present ideas to internal teams and leadership.
Ability to build, maintain and extend relationships across the organization.


Major Accountabilities

1) Support and launch enhancements with a variety of software systems;, through effective research, data and operational processes.

2) Research and understand relevant technology trends including sequence flows, and emerging business models, including early stage developments.

3) Ability to prioritize industry trends and emerging technologies for implementation within various systems.

4) Develop expertise in areas including: distributed generation, energy storage and smart grid technologies, regulatory and policy issues.

5) Work closely with other business unit teams to support, assess and launch technology-driven business opportunities.

6) Effectively interface and resolve project issues with departmental staff and other stakeholders to meet project requirements.

7) Maintain and foster business relationships with business units and vendors to identify potential issues and risks.

8) Demonstrate a continuous learning mindset and knowledge of pilot and proof of concept goals and processes.


9) Ability to establish guidelines and procedures.

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.


Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
