Emergency Response Team (ERT) Shift Lead

Summary

The ERT Shift Lead oversees a 4-person Emergency Response Team and coordinates with an Onyx support technician. This role ensures effective emergency response operations in line with company procedures, OSHA/NFPA standards, and the Qcells Emergency Action Plan (EAP). The Shift Lead is responsible for incident command, team leadership, and daily oversight of patrols, inspections, and permit processes.

Responsibilities Emergency Response Leadership

- Act as Incident Commander until relieved.

- Direct team deployment for fires, HazMat, medical, rescue, and weather events.

- Ensure proper PPE levels (A–D) are used.

- Communicate with UCC, Security, EHS, and external agencies during incidents.

Daily Operations Oversight

- Assign and rotate team roles (Fire/HazMat, Rescue/Medical, Safety Systems).

- Supervise patrols; ensure hazards are reported/resolved.

- Verify inspections of safety systems (SCBAs, extinguishers, fire pumps, gas detection).

- Oversee permit verification for hot work, confined space, and other high-risk activities.

- Ensure logs, reports, and shift handovers are accurate.

Training & Professional Development

- Lead daily training and drills.

- Coach team members in fire, HazMat, rescue, and medical response.

- Evaluate performance and provide feedback.

Team & Interdepartmental Coordination

- Serve as main point of contact between ERT and plant leadership during the shift.

- Coordinate with Onyx support for external expertise.

- Maintain professional communication across radio and digital platforms.

- Support departments with safety compliance and hazardous shipment escorts.

Qualifications

- Required: OSHA HAZWOPER 40; CPR/AED/First Aid; 3+ years in emergency response, fire, military, law enforcement, or industrial safety; strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

- Preferred: ICS 100/200/700; Fire Brigade, HazMat Technician, Confined Space Rescue certifications; EMT certification.

Performance Expectations

- Complete 100% of patrols/inspections each shift.

- Maintain < 3-minute average response time.

- Provide at least 8 hours of team training monthly.

- Achieve 90%+ success rate in drill evaluations.

- Foster a professional safety culture with consistent accountability.

Physical Requirement

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

- Capable of standing for extended periods, up to 12 hours.
