Job Title:
Automation and Electro-Mechanical Technician
Summary:
Responsible for the creation, repair, and maintenance of automation and electro-mechanical systems throughout Banker Wire with a focus on improving machinery and processes. The Automation and Electro-Mechanical Technician will perform routine diagnostic checks on automated systems, monitor automated systems, isolate problems, and perform repairs. They will use their knowledge and experience to assist the team with complex repairs and diagnostics as well.
The Automation and Electro-Mechanical Technician will spend most of their time implementing new project ideas around the shop, assisting maintenance with troubleshooting equipment failures, and occasionally leading the repair themselves (50%/30%/20%).
Education:
Electro-Mechanical/Mechatronics certificate or Associates degree in related field preferred, or demonstrated manufacturing experience of at minimum 4 years in a similar setting. Relevant experience or educational qualifications can substitute for direct experience. Willingness to receive internal or external education based on skill needs.
Skills and Qualifications:
•Required knowledge of electronics, mechanics, and computers.
•Must have experience and knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
•Mechanical and electrical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance.
•Proficient with various instruments and hand tools for troubleshooting, such as electrical multimeters, signal analyzers, and frequency counters.
•Troubleshooting relay logic, identifying PLC logic issues, and working with mechanically timed systems.
•PLC programming knowledge preferred (Automation Direct, Yaskawa, Siemens). Familiarity with DoMore and Yaskawa PLCs, and Siemens, Yaskawa, and other IEC compatible control units. Siemens experience with Tia Portal 15+ is beneficial.
•Must have an in-depth understanding of electrical theory, schematic reading, electro-mechanical systems, and electrical component identification.
•Strong math and analytical skills are essential.
•Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal skills.
•Competent in problem-solving, team building, planning, and decision making.
•Experience with CMMS is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Repairs or replaces any necessary components, such as a sensor or electrical wiring.
•Designs and services control systems ranging from electromechanical devices and systems to high-speed robotics and PLCs.
•Responsible for effective equipment or process troubleshooting and repair.
•Explores and researches new products and repair techniques to use within Banker Wire.
•Follows through on part orders and resolves issues as they arise.
•Programs or integrates computer programming with mechanics, electronics, and process controls.
•Provides industrial maintenance support to ensure the safe and effective operation of the production facility.
•Provides technical assistance and support regarding all projects, installations, and repairs.
•Upgrades hardware and software for improved process control.
•Prepares periodic reports on the progress made concerning faulty machines, errors, and processes.
•Assists in the specification, installation, and modifications of the systems.
•Maintains smooth communication with different levels of departments and peers.
•Conducts investigations; recommends changes and upgrades to equipment.
•Follows Banker Wire safety policies, procedures, and goals.
