DEI is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join our Products and Technology Division. The Products and Technology division is responsible for developing new products, maintaining and improving our established product lines, and providing design support for DEI’s Consulting, Special Projects, and Major Projects groups. Take a look at our website (www.domeng.com) to see examples of the types of equipment and technology we develop.
This role includes a mix of creative problem solving, engineering analysis, component selection, CAD design and drafting, and practical hands-on testing of the systems we build. You will be working alongside our team of design experts to turn ideas into real parts and to find novel solutions for unique challenges. That creative aspect of design pairs with strong engineering fundamentals as you perform calculations to ensure components (e.g., pumps, transformers, etc.) are sized appropriately, make sure that electrical panels are designed according to industry standards, and custom parts can be manufactured. After your drawings turn into physical parts, you can help assemble and test the prototype. There are even opportunities to travel with the team implementing our equipment in the field.
- Demonstrate the ability to translate a problem statement into a physical system, delivered on time and within budget.
- Design electrical panels for control of mechanical systems, including generation of assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and plumbing and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Execute equipment design activities with respect to component selection, sizing, and NEC Code Compliance.
- Complete standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment (e.g., transformer sizing, circuit breaker sizing, enclosure cooling, cable tray fill).
- Work with dedicated Design Engineers to finalize CAD, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Understand and evaluate capabilities, strengths, and compromises for common electromechanical components (e.g., pumps, instrumentation, PLCs, etc.). Understand functional requirements of the equipment/system and select components/vendors based on technical evaluations.
- Research, read, and interpret manufacturer directions, diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, and manuals to incorporate technical details into design documentation, completing assigned projects in an effective, efficient manner.
- Demonstrate competence in core electro-mechanical engineering fundamentals as required to document the proposed component design will satisfy the acceptance criteria for use, including: electrical load calculations, thermodynamics, heat transfer.
- Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and/or Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures to confirm the hardware prototype satisfies the functional design requirements of a customer contract.
- Support equipment assembly and testing activities, including: assembly of prototype materials to design drawings, set up for and execution of factory acceptance testing, troubleshooting equipment operational challenges.
- Demonstrate experience in all aspects of project execution, from conceptualization through final design, procurement, technical documentation, assembly, and testing
- Strong electro-mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Familiarity with UL508A panel design.
- Familiarity with drafting standards for PIDs and wiring schematics.
- Ability to identify process gaps and propose/develop improvements on a continuing basis.
- Ability to articulate technical ideas and abstract concepts with clear written and verbal communication.
- Preferred: Comprehensive understanding of nuclear work environment and the unique design challenges/requirements thereof.
- Preferred: Drafting experience in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical experience and a minimum 3 years of engineering experience.
- Experience designing and building tooling and equipment for industrial applications (minimum 3 years).
