We are looking for multiple Electrical Technologist / Technicians to provide technical support for professionals and tradespersons within the Central Services Maintenance Department at our state-of-the-art aluminum smelter in Kitimat, BC.

This is a great opportunity for a knowledgeable and motivated individual to enhance their technical skills in a unique operational environment. You will work with a diverse array of equipment, including boilers, conveyor systems, rotating machinery, cranes, vibro-compactors, mixing equipment, VFDs, soft starters, and various process control loops.

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent and working a rotating day-shift schedule, you will be:

Adhering to and promoting Rio Tinto's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards while actively engaging in our culture of care, courage, and curiosity.
Providing electrical and automation technical support to production and maintenance teams to ensure operational targets are met.
Ensuring the effectiveness and compliance of preventive, predictive, and periodic maintenance (PPPM) activities to maintain safe and reliable equipment operations.
Defining spare parts requirements and preventative maintenance (PM) strategies to achieve overall equipment efficiency (OEE) targets, and manage the removal of obsolete spare parts.
Evaluating asset conditions and executing actions assigned in improvement plans.
Developing guidelines, specifications, and standards for equipment repair and refurbishment.
Analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) and trends to identify improvement opportunities.
Providing support outside of regular working hours as needed during critical breakdowns


What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Possess at least one of the following tertiary qualifications:
+ Technologist Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Automation and/or Instrumentation, or + An Industrial Electrician Red Seal Certificate of Qualification.
At least two years of relevant experience.
Technical knowledge relating to electrical maintenance.
Knowledge of industrial control systems and programming (i.e.: HMI, PLC & VFD).
Advanced communication and collaboration skills.
Intermediate MS Excel skills (i.e.: macros, statistical analysis)

It will also be beneficial if you have:

Registration or eligibility to register as an Applied Science Technologist with ASTTBC

The base salary range for this role is $84,000 - $126,000 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
