Portside Systems is seeking a full-time Electrical Shop Technician to join our team. This person will be responsible for building and wiring control systems and automation equipment along with supporting building maintenance and shop tasks. The person should be highly motived with the ability to prioritize and work independently once trained. Job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Assembling and wiring de-energized electrical control panels and devices.
- Fabricating holes and other openings in de-energized electrical control panels and machines.
- Installation and routing of electrical cables, cable channel, and electrical cabinets on machinery.
- Assemble electrical connectors and harnesses.
- Assemble and install DC power system components.
- Collaborate with engineering to improve designs for manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance.
- Read and understand electrical schematics.
- Follow manufacturer instruction on device installation.
- Follow the field engineering team into the field to install and commission systems.
- Work with the field engineering team to assist with equipment installations, troubleshooting, and system commissioning.
The candidate should be detail-oriented and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. The person should be able to stay focused and can carry out written and oral instruction. Hands-on electrical fabrication experience a plus, but not required. On the job and formal training will be provided, as necessary.
The candidate should have the following skills:
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools (Ex. Drills, Drivers, Hole Punches, etc.)
- Ability to use basic electrical test equipment.
- Experience with electrical panel assembly and point-to-point wiring of electrical panels.
- Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with AC and DC electrical wiring.
- Understand electrical safety requirements when working on or near electrical equipment.
- Possess a clean drivers license and have a clean driving record.
- Relevant technical training/education in automation, electronics, or mechatronics a plus.
- High School Diploma
- Experience with job requirements above.
- NEC Training a Plus.
- Electricians License a Plus.
- Desire to learn and engage a MUST, Portside will train the right candidate that wants to dig in and start a career.
- Climbing, bending, stopping, and some light to moderate lifting and carrying, fine motor skills, able to grasp small items, kneeling, ability to perform repetitive motion, ability to stand and walk all day.
- Must be able to visually read wiring diagrams, written instruction, and assemble electrical components.
- Must be able to identify audible hazard sounds and be aware of the environment around them.
- Mental comprehension, reasoning, and communications.
- Dominant shop position with the occasional trip to site for field work, local to New England limited to day trips or one-two overnights.
- Shop Support, when not on the road.
