Job Summary:
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineers with expertise in substation design to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead the design and engineering of electrical substations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and providing technical guidance to the project team. This role requires a Washington-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and at least 10 years of relevant experience in substation design.
Key Responsibilities:
•Lead the design and engineering of medium voltage substations ranging from 115KV to 12.47KV
•Perform design and engineering services on at least five (5) medium voltage substation projects in the past five years
•Oversee the creation of material specifications for substation equipment
•Design substations using metalclad enclosed switchgear
•Develop and implement corrective action plans for defective equipment or construction installations
•Prepare construction bid specifications and special conditions for substation projects
•Inspect and document construction installation to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards
•Develop substation ground grid requirements and specifications, and conduct testing of ground grid impedance
•Work in energized substations, ensuring all safety protocols are adhered to
•Collaborate with electric utility operations teams to ensure seamless integration and compliance
•Provide leadership and mentorship to the project team, ensuring smooth project execution and delivery
•Ensure the successful completion of substation design projects in alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
Key Requirements:
Experience:
•At least 5 years of business operation with a proven track record in substation design and engineering
•Minimum 10 years of professional experience in substation design and engineering, with at least one (1) person on the assigned team meeting this requirement (not a subcontractor)
•Experience designing medium voltage substations (115KV to 12.47KV)
•Proven experience in designing substations utilizing metalclad enclosed switchgear
•Demonstrated experience creating material specifications for substation equipment
•Experience in construction inspection and documenting installations for substation projects
•Strong background in developing and implementing corrective action plans for defective equipment and construction installations
•Extensive experience preparing construction bid specifications and special conditions
•Proven ability to work in energized substations with strict adherence to safety procedures
•Experience working with electric utility operations
•Expertise in developing substation ground grid requirements and conducting ground grid impedance testing
Skills:
•Strong technical expertise in substation design, electrical systems, and protection schemes
•Ability to lead and manage large-scale substation projects effectively
•Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills
•Proficiency in using electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM)
•Ability to work in high-pressure environments while maintaining attention to detail and safety
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
•Washington-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
Availability:
•Full-time position with regular office hours; flexibility may be required depending on project needs
