A boutique renewable energy company is looking for an Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design and delivery of solar PV, battery storage, and related clean energy projects. The role involves close collaboration with project managers, construction teams, and clients to develop technical designs, oversee integration, and support projects from early concept through final commissioning.
The Electrical Engineer will focus on system design, technical documentation, and project execution while also ensuring that all work aligns with industry standards and local utility requirements. This role requires not only strong design capabilities but also the ability to troubleshoot issues during construction and identify opportunities to improve system reliability and performance.
- Produce, review, and refine electrical system designs for solar, storage, and efficiency-focused projects.
- Draft engineering drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.
- Partner with architects, contractors, utilities, and clients to validate designs and ensure constructability.
- Lead or support applications for permits and interconnection approvals with regulatory bodies and utilities (including HECO).
- Perform site visits to gather data, oversee construction execution, and provide technical input during commissioning.
- Assist with problem resolution both on-site and remotely when system issues arise.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, ASME, and other applicable standards, codes, and safety practices.
- Maintain technical records, documentation of design revisions, and test results.
- Assess emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve performance and reduce lifecycle costs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, ideally within renewable energy or power infrastructure.
- Deep familiarity with electrical system design methodologies, codes, and standards.
- Hands-on experience with CAD software (AutoCAD or equivalent) and engineering analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
- Capable of working effectively in small, collaborative teams.
- Skilled communicator, able to coordinate with internal colleagues as well as external stakeholders.
- Direct experience with solar PV or battery energy storage projects.
- Understanding of permitting and interconnection processes in Hawaii.
- Field experience with construction support and system commissioning.
