Overview
This position is responsible for maintaining transmission facility ratings and reliability benchmarking. In collaboration with multiple transmission groups, this position identifies and provides justification for transmission reliability projects and enhancements to the Transmission Reliability Outage Data System (TRODS). Responsibilities will include assisting with complex data analytics questions, tracking performance metrics, supporting capital project and maintenance program implementation, and developing reporting tools using a variety of data sources. This position may be filled at the I, II, III, or Principal level based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
This position may be located in Louisville, KY OR Lexington, KY. Responsibilities
- Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations and complex data analysis.
- Participates in and performs benchmarking studies and analysis related to reliability performance.
- Assists with the development of Transmission goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods and gathers, correlates, and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
- Prepares and presents reports, requiring self-analysis and recommendations, for related system reliability, compliance and/or engineering activities. Ability to work independently. High degree of integrity and self-direction required.
- Supports Transmission operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis, troubleshooting, problem identification, problem resolution activities.
- Develops and maintains various operational and regulatory databases.
- Participates in the North American Transmission Forum as directed.
- Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free workplace.
- Occasionally directs the activities of coops, supervisors, and others as they perform various activities.
- Performs other duties as directed by management.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:Engineer I: ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Engineer II: ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus a minimum of 2 years of Engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
Engineer III: ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 5 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
Principal Engineer: ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data analysis programming languages and data processing techniques (e.g., using SQL, R, or Python).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills capable of accurately and clearly communicating complex technical information to all levels of customers. Experience presenting to groups.
- Good decision-making skills (i.e., ability to define a problem, develop alternative solutions, identify key uncertainties, and apply logically correct reasoning in formulating a recommendation).
- Understanding of statistical concepts used to evaluate risk and uncertainty.
- Ability to work with and advise a variety of personnel including engineers, management, technicians, co-op students, consultants, etc.
- Adaptable to varying priorities and customer needs, including time critical projects that require immediate attention.
- Self-motivated and able to work productively with minimal supervision.
- Utility experience is a plus.
