Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and instrumentation used in the Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning (SX/EW) plant and wellfield. This includes overseeing power distribution systems, motors, control systems (PLC/SCADA), and ensuring electrical compliance with safety regulations and production targets. The engineer plays a key role in ensuring plant reliability, efficiency, and availability by working closely with maintenance and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Maintenance:
•Design, review, and maintain electrical systems including MCCs, transformers, switchgear, and motor protection systems.
•Oversee the operation and maintenance of SX/EW and wellfield specific equipment such as rectifiers, electrolytic cells, pump motors, and agitation systems.
•Manage installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems in the SX/EW and wellfield upgrades or expansions.
Automation and Control:
•Maintain and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA, and HMI interfaces.
•Develop and optimize automation sequences for the SX, EW, and wellfield processes to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
•Ensure proper calibration and functioning of field instruments (e.g., pH meters, flowmeters, conductivity sensors).
Reliability and Optimization:
•Conduct failure analysis and implement root cause solutions for recurring electrical issues.
•Monitor energy consumption and suggest improvements for energy efficiency in the SX/EW circuits.
•Work with process engineers to align electrical system performance with process goals.
Safety and Compliance:
•Ensure all electrical work is performed in accordance with relevant electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE) and mine site safety protocols.
•Participate in electrical safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
•Ensure electrical personnel are trained in safe work practices and lockout/tagout procedures.
Documentation and Reporting:
•Prepare and update electrical drawings (single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts).
•Maintain asset registers, preventive maintenance schedules, and failure logs.
•Provide technical reports and recommendations to management.
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
•Bachelor's degree or 6 years’ experience in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
•Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical engineering in a mining, metallurgical, or heavy industrial environment.
•Proficient in power systems, control systems, and industrial automation.
•Experience with PLC/SCADA systems
•Familiarity with electrical standards and safety codes (NEC, IEEE, MSHA, etc.)
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Effective communication and team collaboration.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote, or challenging industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
•5 years’ experience in electrical engineering in a mining, metallurgical, or heavy industrial environment
•Direct experience with SX/EW plant operations
•Experience with PLC/SCADA systems used in hydrometallurgical operations
Work Environment:
•This position will include office work, but some work will be performed in all-weather conditions outdoors.
•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds.
•Must work in compliance with the Florence Copper’s site safety program.
