JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electrical Control Technician/ Technologist, to join our team in Kenora, ON.

Reporting to the Trades Management Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining and overhauling all electrical, electronic control, protection and telecommunication associated with generating stations and facilities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain, overhaul, and assist with the design of electrical, electronic, control, protection, telecommunication, and testing equipment for generating stations and facilities; take appropriate preventative and corrective actions.

- Prepare and maintain electrical, control, instrumentation, protection, and telecommunication sketches, drawings, bills of material, and related documentation.

- Coordinate large-scale or highly complex projects and maintenance enhancements involving new electrical systems or technology upgrades, including contract coordination and quality assurance inspections.

- Assist in the design and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), with experience in Modicon PLCs using Unity Pro and networked PLC maintenance, configuration, programming, and troubleshooting.

- Integrate, modify, and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (VT SCADA) systems, including screen and tag modifications, end device verification, and regulatory compliance.

- Set up, install, program, and connect servers, network switches, modems, routers, gateways, and network cables; troubleshoot communications for PLCs, SCADA, Protections, and Metering.

- Commission, program, and perform field testing on protection relays (GE, BECKWITH, SEL, etc.) and high voltage (HV) equipment, including breakers and transformers; conduct electrical, control, and protection equipment testing to recognized standards.

- Provide technical support and participate in energy production studies, reliability analysis, and reporting; develop and maintain supplementary computer programs, technical procedures, and ensure health, safety, and well-being in all activities.


QUALIFICATIONS

- Grade 12 or equivalent and 2-year college diploma in a related field of study. *

- Valid Certificate of Qualification (309A or 442A) an asset

- 5+ years of experience as an electrical and control technician/technologist

- Preference to applicants with experience installing, maintaining, inspecting High Voltage Equipment

- Experience programming and troubleshooting Modicon PLCs using Unity Pro is considered an asset

- Thrive in a fast-paced team environment, demonstrating strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to travel 75%

- Be eligible to work in Canada

- Relevant Field of Education includes:Instrumentation Tech/Technologist; Electrical Tech/Technologist; Electronics Tech/Technologist; Electromechanical Engineering Technology

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
