Key Project Requirements
• Ability to assist in the development and execute energization procedures under supervision.
• Hands-on experience with relay testing, switchgear, substations, MCCs, and other electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of NETA electrical testing standards and NFPA 70E safety practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting field commissioning activities.
• Ability to troubleshoot, verify, and support the startup of electrical systems.
Job Summary
PIC Group is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Technician to support a utility power project in New Orleans, LA. This role will follow the direction of the Commissioning Manager and Commissioning Electrical Lead for the commissioning and energization of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, including relays, switchgear, substations, and motor control centers. Ideal candidates will have prior commissioning or electrical startup experience, demonstrate strong field awareness, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with construction and testing teams.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Perform electrical testing and commissioning activities for relays, switchgear, MCCs, substations, and related systems under the guidance of the Commissioning Lead.
• Assist in the execution of energization and startup procedures.
• Verify that electrical systems are installed and tested according to design drawings and specifications.
• Follow all lockout/tagout procedures and adhere to project-specific safety protocols.
• Interface with EPC contractors, OEMs, and testing vendors to support commissioning progress.
• Document test results, assist with tracking commissioning milestones, and communicate issues promptly.
• Participate in daily commissioning meetings and support resolution of field issues as assigned.
Job Requirements
• Excellent understanding of electrical commissioning practices and startup activities.
• Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and test documentation.
• Experience supporting electrical testing contractors and plant/startup teams in the field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining accurate commissioning records.
• Comfortable working in dynamic environments with changing priorities.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to wear PPE for extended periods in a field commissioning setting.
Education / Experience
• 5+ years of experience in electrical commissioning on power generation, utility, or large industrial projects.
• NETA certification or equivalent testing experience preferred but not required.
• OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
