The Electrical CAD Designer is responsible for developing and modifying electrical design layouts, schematics, and detailed drawings for components and assemblies. This role supports engineering and manufacturing teams by translating technical concepts into precise CAD documentation that meets customer specifications and industry standards. This role works with the Senior Engineer (Electrical) and reports to Manager, Design & Drafting.
- Create and revise electrical design drawings, including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bill of materials.
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, reliability, and compliance with applicable codes and customer requirements.
- Review and validate engineering documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify and report discrepancies in design data and collaborate with engineers to resolve issues.
- Maintain consistency and clarity in drawing sets for shop and field fabrication.
- Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRNs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) efficiently.
- Participate in design reviews and project kickoff meetings.
- Track progress of assigned design tasks and ensure deadlines are met.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to support project goals.- Trade School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical CAD design, including component and assembly drawings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and electrical design software.
- Solid understanding of CAD principles, electrical standards, and Electrical drawing fundamentals.
- Technical competence in software, hardware, and network fundamentals.

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or related field.
- Understanding of and the ability to do code research on NFPA, NEC, and CSA or other electrical code standards.
- Industrial electrical experience in component selection and layout.
- Panel wiring and fabrication experience (shop and field).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet both short- and long-term deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Skilled in general office equipment and typing at a professional speed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of business writing, report preparation, and professional correspondence.
- Excellent command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Basic understanding of business arithmetic and calculations.
