What We Are Looking For:
As an Economic Consultant at PSE in our Madison, WI, Office, your primary responsibility will be developing and delivering consulting services to PSE clients for various economic and financial engagements. A successful individual will pursue these responsibilities through close coordination with the Department Vice President, other Vice Presidents, managers, and project teams. The position requires a balance of expert-level technical skills, strong critical thinking, an other-focused approach to work, and an ambition to pursue progress through solving problems. PSE focuses on achieving exceptional client satisfaction; therefore, the individual must have a desire to exceed client expectations and be proficient and willing to advance in areas of client communications and relationship capabilities.
What You Will Be Doing:

•Develop client relationships and project work in existing and new service areas, including:
+ Rate design and cost of service studies focusing on municipal utilities (gas, water, wastewater, electric).
+ Long-range load forecasting for electric utilities, including G&T and Distribution utilities.
+ Technology adoption forecasting for electric utilities, including G&T and Distribution utilities.
+ Economic feasibility assessments of projects, including demand-side management (DSM), renewable projects, power supply contracts, and project financing.
+ Resource planning studies.
+ End-use surveys to support the analytics around electrification, EV adoption, or other defined technologies.
+ Customer analytics and segmentation.
•Complete and/or lead the completion of the above services.
•Leading the development of client relationships and completion of projects for municipal utilities for rate design, cost of service, and DSM services.
•Assisting in developing and promoting service offerings around innovative rates, pricing programs, customer segmentation, beneficial electrification, operational efficiencies, etc. Such services are expected to require the use and development of skills related to; data processing, measurement and verification of impacts, short-term and long-term forecasting, modeling/predicting participation, pattern recognition and machine learning, survey design and administration, and related skills.
•Initiating visits to utilities in target markets to promote PSE services, pursuing speaking engagements at a local, regional, and national level, and collaborating with other PSE department client activities and business development activities.
•Managing and documenting progress on assigned tasks, deadlines, and budgets for multiple projects simultaneously.
•Structuring projects and delegating work across the department and PSE based on the principle of utilizing the most efficient, available resource.
•Gathering, processing, and visualization of substantial amounts of data in Microsoft Excel, R and/or RStudio, Python, Microsoft PowerBI, and other BI tools.
•Possess the ability to work as a team, independently, and remotely occasionally.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or mathematics
•Advanced degree in business or economics is strongly preferred.
•Minimum 10 years of related experience in consulting and/or the utility industry.
Knowledge and Skills
•Ability to develop new and expand existing client relationships.
•Ability to identify client “pain points” and develop client-focused solutions.
•Strong organizational skills needed to participate in multiple project teams simultaneously while completing tasks on time, on target, and within budget.
•Possess the ability and drive to produce excellent work products, analyze and learn new concepts, develop skills, and be a strong team player.
•Possess integrity, honesty, accountability, and strong moral principles.
•Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
•Experience with R, RStudio, and Python is a plus.
•Advanced knowledge of electric utility systems is expected.
Compensation & Benefits:
•Salary Range: $126,152 - $150,771
This salary range reflects the anticipated base salary for ten to twenty minimum relevant years of experience. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's relevant years of experience, education, and technical expertise.
