Position Purpose:
Perform duties to design single-phase and multi-phase electrical distribution systems.
Essential Functions:
Design and stake assigned single-phase and multi-phase line extensions and conversions
•Design and stake distribution systems to conform to RUS and NESC specifications. Ensure designs comply with required government guidelines.
•Coordinate and review designs with engineering, operations and other departments to ensure that designs comply with safety and reliability standards. Ensure that designs are compatible with the Cooperative's system of operations and line feeds.
•Size basic conductor and transformers to serve the customer's needs.
•Comply with Cooperative's safety rules and regulations in the performance of job duties.
•Assist other districts as needed to ensure design and construction is performed in a timely manner.
Secure easement, right-of-way, encroachment (DOT) and permits needed for system extensions and relocations.
•Provide right-of-way agreements along with instructions to members, developers and commercial projects general foreman's (GF).
•Review right-of-way agreements received for recording and delivering them to the correct department to be recorded.
•Comply with the requirements of other utilities for obtaining permits and encroachments within their rights-of-way.
•Follow federal, state, and county government specifications relating to permits, easements and encroachments.
•Respond to members' inquiries or complaints concerning new right-of-way issues. Keep the immediate supervisor informed of any unusual members complaints or issues.
•Inform members, developers or commercial projects of requirements for trimming and clearing right-of-way areas on their property prior to single-phase and multi-phase line extensions.
•Provide estimates of clearing costs when needed for clearing the right-of-way.
•Obtain permission from members and landowners for trimming and clearing on their property when single-phase and multi-phase line extensions are needed for Cooperative.
Compile required documentation related to each design project for construction.
•Initiate automated work order of the approved design into the mapping software.
•With coordination from members, developers or commercial projects GF by requirements of the county, towns state or phases.
•Coordination with operations Construction Coordinator.
•Prepare work orders for estimates, invoices, warehouse, operations and other departments as needed.
•Prepare required documents including but not limited to work orders, cost estimates, cad files etc. supporting each design project.
•Document all files required by the Cooperative's policies.
•After completing the assignment, enter information into a computer system to upgrade files.
•Open and visually inspect energized equipment for feeds, routes, capacity, etc.
Other Duties:
•Detect faulty operations or materials and report all unusual conditions to the supervisor.
•Maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
•Follow safety procedures and keep the work area clean and orderly.
•Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
•Use radio equipment for communications according to regulations.
•Assist in residential and commercial lighting projects as needed.
•Be available to respond to all types of emergency service calls.
•Maintain current First Aid and Adult CPR certification.
Qualifications:
•Associates Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology desired.
•Excellent written & verbal skills to communicate within the staking department, relay relevant information to engineering staff, and effectively interface with members and builders regarding new services and right of ways.
•Ability to effectively utilize company's Futura staking software and access system maps and attributes via FieldPro on the iPad.
•Experience with NISC IVUE or a similar CIS system is also preferred.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is also desired.
•Experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
•Problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyze alternative solutions and resolve potential problems when dealing with members and line design issues.
Physical Demands:
Limited physical effort required to prepare staking sheets and to coordinate work with members, developers, and landowners.
Mental/Visual Requirements:
Continuous visual attention and manual dexterity required to create detailed staking sheets and required documentation to support each project.
Environmental Conditions:
Some work in office environment but most of time is spent outside with frequent exposure to seasonal temperature variance and weather conditions.
