Job Summary
The Director of Project Development leads strategic initiatives by planning and developing generation and transmission projects that align with NiSource's strategic objectives. This role collaborates with Integrated Resource Planning and Commercial Development to identify projects and develop implementing strategies. This role relies on blending leadership, innovation, and relationship-building to drive impactful programs and partnerships. The Director of Project Development works collaboratively within the Construction organization and cross-functionally with other groups and Subject Matter Experts, to expand the organization's impact through project development.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for initial project development through Executive Leadership Team and BOD approval, building, presenting and executing on business plans.
- Responsible for permitting, site selection, execution strategy and contract strategy
- Lead project teams through initial Front End Engineering and Design studies.
- Lead project teams in developing contract strategies, requests for proposals for both services and equipment, and vendor selections.
- Build systems for long-term project management and relationship development
- Use data and stakeholder input to drive continuous improvement
- Actively participate and attend industry events and conferences; network with industry professionals

- Bachelor's Degree STEM, Finance, Sustainability, Energy, or other related technical degrees
- Working knowledge of renewable power generation, energy storage, gas power generation, and backup power. Ability to quickly assess technical risks and project challenges as well as focus on critical path solutions and design of feasible options Experience developing or managing large scale generation assets. Comfortable with basic financial statements and project finance concepts, project development proformas, basic permitting requirements and the regulatory landscape, project approval processes, financing mechanisms etc. Effectively and productively collaborate with peers and stakeholders in a manner that build confidence, shared success, and future growth
