We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our Origination team. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills.
The Director or Sr. Director, Origination would join our team of Originators who source, negotiate, and execute Power Purchase Agreements ("PPA") and other structured power offtake arrangements. This position would also initiate new business development efforts in growing areas of the renewables landscape. The position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, unstructured environment, constantly collaborating with various internal and external teams to meet customer driven deadlines. The individual would ultimately be responsible for managing customer bids and meetings, performing various market analyses and supporting efforts to optimize new product structures. This role requires advanced knowledge of CAISO and Southwest power markets, as well as extensive experience with contracting and PPA structures and negotiation related to US utility-scale solar and energy storage.
- Work closely with origination team with the objective of sourcing, negotiating and executing Purchase Power Agreements (PPAs) and other complex power off-take arrangements in the solar power industry.
- Create new and build upon existing key relationships with utilities, CCAs, and take-off partners.
- Negotiate and close PPAs with large utility and other target customers.
- Coordinate with development, finance, engineering and other departments to develop solutions for customers, including assisting in the development of proposals and pricing for opportunities
- Negotiation of power contracts with counterparties in collaboration with stakeholders from functions across the organization (Corporate Strategy, Business Development, Finance, Operations)
- Evaluate market revenue potential and work with energy markets to develop project revenue forecasts.
- Communicate key deal points and present recommendations to executive management.
- Travel to customer meetings and relevant industry conferences.
- Role would focus on PPA opportunities in the western United States with emphasis on CAISO market.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA and three years of experience in the position or a related position.
- Alternatively, must have Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or foreign equivalent degree plus eight years of progressive experience in power (energy) markets.
- Must have three years of experience in long term energy procurement structures and technologies.
- Must have experience and knowledge of renewable generation technologies.
- Must have knowledge of regulatory policies, rates and tariffs and electric transmission.
- Solid understanding of economic drivers for renewable energy projects.
- Independent self-starter who can meet deadlines and deliver quality products with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated ability to translate contracts into concise financial and economic analysis.
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product.
- Excellent personal organizational, pattern recognition, and negotiation skills.
