Director of Utility Services and Member Relations
NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking a Director of Utility Services and Member Relations to join our team. Use your skills, experience, and talents to provide leadership in delivering high-quality utility services to NMPP member communities. This role is responsible for strengthening member engagement, expanding service offerings based on member needs, and developing effective service delivery partnerships. The Director works closely with members and internal teams to ensure utility services are responsive, reliable, and aligned with organizational priorities and the evolving needs of member communities.
The Director of Utility Services and Member Relations supports the mission of NMPP Energy by leading efforts in several key areas, including:
Utility Service Delivery:
•Leading the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of utility-related services, products, and programs.
•Engaging with member communities and internal teams to identify and anticipate member needs to develop and implement new utility programs and service models.
•Leading the coordination of utility-focused training and education opportunities for members to support safe and efficient utility operations, compliance and awareness of evolving industry practices.
•Developing, coordinating, and overseeing mutual aid programs and agreements to ensure member communities have timely access to resources, support, and assistance during operational challenges.
•Providing leadership and oversight for the Electric Distribution System (EDS) Program, ensuring high-quality delivery of services such as meter audits, infrared inspections, drone-based maintenance assessments, and safety manual distribution to support local utility reliability and compliance.
Business Development:
•Developing partnerships with other organizations, including regional economic development groups, other utilities, nonprofits, and joint action agencies, to stay informed about industry information, trends, and resources; building a network of utility and economic development contacts; collaborating to address emerging industry issues and providing economic development support to member communities.
•Marketing and promoting the benefits of utility services; assisting with development and execution of marketing efforts in conjunction with marketing and communications staff; recruiting and retaining network of vendors as NMPP Champion members and coordinating all vendor activity.
•Assisting with conducting market research and analysis to understand customer needs, identify market trends, and develop sales strategies.
Program Development & Implementation:
•Designing, implementing, and facilitating member-focused programs, including Energy Efficiency, demand-side management, and other initiatives.
•Evaluating program performance and reporting to the various boards and committees, to include assisting with conducting research and market analysis and recommending potential new programs and coordinating program development within the organization.
•Developing and managing partnerships with vendors, joint action agencies, and utility-focused organizations to enhance program offerings and service capabilities.
•Coordinating with communications staff to promote services and clearly communicate their value.
Member Relations:
•Listening and responding to member needs and concerns; gathering data from member communities requesting assistance with member services, power supply, or related needs and coordinating organizational response and resolution in coordination with member relations representatives, staff and leadership.
•Visiting communities in person and strengthening relationships that are critical to the growth and sustainability of the organization.
•Ensuring member-facing events, communications and outreach activities reflect organizational priorities and strengthen long-term member relationships.
•Gathering data and information from member communities regarding service needs or related issues and coordinating internal teams and resources for response and resolution.
•Overseeing the planning and execution of the NMPP Annual Conference including program content, speaker coordination, and cross department collaboration to deliver a high-value experience.
Organizational Leadership:
•Contributing to organizational planning and strategic initiatives as part of the NMPP Energy leadership team.
•Presenting updates, reports, and recommendations to boards and leadership team regarding member services and utility program performance.
•Overseeing budget development and management for utility services and member relations functions to ensure effective allocation of resources and financial accountability.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
•Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Engineering or related field and 7-10 years progressively responsible relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
•Strong understanding of municipal utility operations and public power structures.
•Excellent relationship-building and communication skill, with the ability to engage and support diverse member communities.
•Experience managing budgets, planning resources and leading cross-functional initiatives.
•Ability to think strategically, guide program innovation, and represent the organization effectively with members, vendors, and external partners.
•Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
