At Canam Steel Corporation, the Director of Procurement plays a key strategic and operational role in managing the sourcing, procurement, and supply chain functions across our Joist and Decking operations. This leader will oversee a $400M annual spend and be responsible for building a world-class procurement operation that delivers sustainable cost savings, supplier performance, and supply continuity while supporting our Operating Agenda growth ambitions and cost savings commitments. The position requires expertise in both direct and indirect procurement, vendor relationship management, and cross-functional collaboration across plant operations, engineering, finance, and the commercial organization. This role will ensure alignment with our ERP (Microsoft Dynamics 365) strategy and contribute to continuous improvement across the enterprise.
This position follows a hybrid work model, with the expectation to be onsite at our Point of Rocks, MD location up to three (3) days per week, or as determined by your manager based on team and business needs. The remaining days may be worked remotely.
Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of our Point of Rocks, MD location. Flexibility in the hybrid schedule may vary depending on departmental needs.
As part of your job responsibilities, you will be required to travel for business purposes, including but not limited to meetings, conferences, training sessions, or site visits. Reasonable notice will be provided, and all travel-related expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Company's travel and expense policy. Given the travel requirements of this role, you are expected to maintain a primary residence within a reasonable commuting distance to a major airport to facilitate efficient and timely travel. This expectation is a condition of continued employment in this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Develop and lead CSC's North American sourcing and procurement strategy, aligning the site level procurement function with the CSC's Operating Agenda.
•Coach, develop, and lead a high-performing team of plant buyers and indirect sourcing professionals; support succession planning and capability building.
•Design and implement standardized, scalable purchasing processes that support business continuity and profitability across all sites,
•Drive savings and performance in steel sourcing— merchant bar quality (MBQ), hot-rolled coil (HRC), and hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) steel.
•Lead indirect procurement initiatives and leverage third party relationships including the Blackstone Group, Green Cabbage, and Uber Freight
•Manage key supplier relationships with the large steel mills including U.S. Steel, Gerdau, Cleveland Cliffs, Nucor and others
•Partner with Finance, Operations, and SIOP teams to create accurate material cost forecasts and inventory plans, potentially hedging physical steel or synthetic derivatives
•Lead supplier performance reviews using scorecards; manage relationships to improve cost, quality, and delivery.

Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
•MBA or professional certifications (CPM, CPIM) preferred.
•10+ years of progressive procurement leadership, ideally in the steel or building materials industry.
•Experience with steel hedging, CAPEX procurement, and strategic sourcing in a manufacturing setting.
•Proven negotiation skills and supplier relationship management experience.
•Strong analytical, Excel, and ERP systems skills—preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365.
•Exposure to Lean principles and continuous improvement environments.
•Excellent communication, leadership, and change management abilities.
•Willingness to travel up to 50% to support our national plant footprint.
