We are searching for a new Director of Health and Safety. The successful candidate will be leading the charge to build a world-class safety culture and protect teams, projects, and the environment in large-scale solar construction—driving innovation and best practices across every phase of renewable energy development.
What you'll do:
•Oversee, direct, and manage the health and safety of all Company employees, work sites and vendors.
•Collaborate with the management team to develop, coordinate, to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the Company.
•Collaborate with the management team to develop, administer, and ensure a safe workplace including programs for orientations, skill training, proper job instruction, hazardous materials handling, and the use of protective equipment. and implement occupational health policies and procedures
•Maintain appropriate OSHA, CALOSHA. MSHA, HIOSHA and other applicable jurisdictionally required safety processes, policies and procedures, certifications, reporting requirements and be the lead Company representative in all interactions with such organizations.
•Perform regular site visits, scheduled and unannounced, to Company job sites to perform inspections for health and safety compliance.
•Manage Company fleet including new purchases, sales, maintenance, and warranty claims. Perform regular inspections for safety, cleanliness, and maintenance.
•Manage Company tool and PPE programs. Ensure compliance with OEM requirements, complete regular inspections for safety and quality, where applicable, complete safety certifications (i.e. fall protection), track tools and PPE to ensure Company assets are protected.
•Review daily safety reports, accident and incident reports, and other job site reports and maintain record of project incident and severity rates and total project hours.
•Review Company contracts for safety and insurance requirements, provide feedback on negotiation of such contracts and ensure Company complies with requirements of such contracts.
•Develop processes to collect data on training, collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting and generate training to prevent repeat occurrences.
•Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
•Develop budgets to support current and future company health and safety initiatives.
•Purchase, maintain, coordinate, and make cost effective use of safety personnel and resources.
•Represent the Company and employee interest in any safety or loss control investigations.
•Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, both in office and onsite, to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
•Audit all Company health and safety procedures and protocols on a quarterly basis.
•Review Company insurance policies to assist in ensuring proper coverage and to reduce exposure to claims. Assist with periodic insurance renewals and requests.
•Participate in the prequalification of Company subcontractors. Lead the review of subcontractor insurance, safety record and license qualifications. Maintain ongoing files of Company subcontractors to ensure they remain in compliance with Company requirements.
•Perform other related duties as assigned
What you'll bring:
•Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required
•8+ years of occupations health and safety experience in an industrial environment such as construction or renewable industry
•Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
•Must have ability to conduct training
•Must have strong supervisory and leadership skills
•Must be highly motivated, adaptable, detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work both with a team and independently
•Must have excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
•Must excel with multi-tasking, problem-solving, written, and communication skills
