Job Summary:
Melink Solar is a leading commercial solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) company specializing in designing and building solar arrays. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to join our growing team. This role will oversee the design, technical strategy, and innovation of solar PV systems, while playing a critical role in supporting business development efforts related to Independent Power Producer (IPP) sales. The Director of Engineering will ensure high-quality, cost-effective designs and act as a technical advisor during the origination, proposal, and execution phases of customer projects. The Director of Engineering reports directly to the CEO.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership•Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Engineering Department, ensuring design excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement
•Develop and implement technical standards, tools, and processes to ensure high-quality, code-compliant designs that maximize project value and system performance
•Oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities, ensuring that all designs, materials, and construction deliverables meet established standards of performance, reliability, and compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements
•Lead engineering resource planning, team development, recruiting, mentoring, and training efforts
•Review and approve engineering plans, drawings, calculations, and specifications
•Coordinate with Project Management, Construction, and Procurement teams to ensure designs are aligned with budget, schedule, and constructability requirements
•Stay informed on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory updates impacting solar system design and implementation
Key Customer Interface
•Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert during Independent Power Producer (IPP) project origination, proposals, and sales processes
•Provide technical expertise and preliminary design support to Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sales teams during customer engagement, project scoping, and proposal development
•Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and technical discussions to assess project feasibility and present Melink Solar’s technical capabilities
•Collaborate with the Project Execution team to prepare preliminary designs, energy yield estimates, system performance modeling, and technical content for IPP proposals and RFP responses
•Support risk analysis for IPP projects, including site evaluation, grid interconnection constraints, permitting challenges, and technology selection
•Assist in developing and reviewing contractual scopes of work, performance guarantees, and owner’s engineering documentation to ensure alignment with technical capabilities and project goals
Strategic Contributor
•Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, including the development of new product offerings (e.g., storage, microgrids, hybrid solutions)
•Identify opportunities for innovation in system design, technology adoption, and design-to-value engineering
•Support project financing structuring efforts, including build-own-operate models, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and third-party ownership structures, from a technical perspective
Required Skills & Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred)
•Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire
•7+ years of experience in solar PV design and engineering, including at least 3+ years managing engineering teams
•Proven experience supporting sales or business development, preferably within the IPP or utility-scale solar sector
•Deep understanding of solar PV systems, NEC code compliance, utility interconnection processes, and system performance modeling (PVSyst, Helioscope, etc.)
•Strong knowledge of EPC project lifecycles, from origination through commissioning
•Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, including Business Development, Project Management, Construction, and Finance
•Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills
•Highly organized, results-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience supporting energy storage (BESS) and hybrid solar+storage systems
•Familiarity with financial modeling for renewable energy projects
•Experience in utility-scale PV and distributed generation markets
•NABCEP PVIP Professional Certification
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to traverse and inspect job sites in various weather conditions, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, and stretching
•Lift up to 50 pounds as needed
•Exposure to common construction site hazards
