Overview:
Utilities One is looking for an experienced and visionary Director of Data Center Design & Construction to lead the planning, design, and execution of data center development projects. This full-time leadership role will drive strategic initiatives across all phases of the data center lifecycle — from concept and design to construction and delivery.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in both data center design and construction, paired with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and in alignment with the highest technical and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
•Define and lead the data center design and construction strategy across multiple projects.
•Evaluate feasibility studies, budgets, timelines, and risk assessments.
•Establish and maintain best practices for scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable data center builds.
Design Oversight & Technical Review
•Lead design reviews for architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.
•Ensure alignment with business needs, industry standards, and energy efficiency goals.
•Drive innovation in design solutions to maximize uptime, scalability, and performance.
Construction Execution & Risk Management
•Oversee contractor selection, procurement strategy, and execution plans.
•Monitor project progress, proactively identifying and resolving risks, delays, or cost overruns.
•Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols, local codes, and environmental standards.
Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination
•Serve as the key point of contact between engineering teams, architects, vendors, and executives.
•Review and approve bids, proposals, and contracts to ensure project alignment.
•Provide clear updates, reports, and strategic input to senior leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
•10+ years of experience in data center design and construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
•Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems for mission-critical facilities.
•Proven ability to manage large-scale, complex construction projects from concept to completion.
•Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
•Willingness to travel as needed to project sites and meetings.
•Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
