Reporting into the VP, Finance, the Director, Internal Controls will be responsible for oversight of the Company’s internal control environment; and partnering with mine sites and development projects, and the corporate office functions to ensure best practices with maintenance and execution of the Company’s internal control environment and risk management practices, advising on and identifying areas to strengthen risk and control frameworks and working in collaboration with the Company’s internal and external auditors. This role will involve significant travel to the Company’s operations.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Company’s internal controls environment.
- Partner with mine sites, development projects and head office function to ensure best practices with respect to maintenance and execution of the internal control environment and risk management practices
- Advise on and identify areas to strengthen risk and control frameworks
- Collaborate with Company’s internal and external auditors
- Support change management as part of the implementation of various finance initiatives/transformation
- Design and review policies, procedures and manuals for standardizing operations
- Support management in the design and implementation of corrective measures to ensure effectiveness of financial, operational and compliance processes and systems
- Proactively support in evaluating and improving overall controls awareness within the company by designing and delivering training to internal stakeholders.
- - Professional auditing and/or accounting designation (CPA/CIA/CISA).
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in business.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in working with controls and risk concepts including Sarbanes-Oxley and COSO Internal Control – Integrated Framework requirements
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting processes, technology risk and business control design
- Experience with SAP or other ERP systems and working knowledge of audit analytical tools e.g. ACL
- Experience in the mining industry is an asset
- Experience in designing and reviewing policies, procedures and manuals for standardizing operations
