REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Officer



The Director consistently displays the work ethic and models the behaviors conducive to the desired DREMC culture. He/ She partners with the Chief Operations Officer to represent Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) to residential, commercial, and industrial members, and community organizations served by DREMC and provide leadership throughout the organization.


Supervisory Responsibility — The Director is accountable for the safety, productivity, and culture of assigned personnel who specialize in distribution construction and maintenance, engineering, financial and retail member communication. Success requires strong partnerships with a management team that reports to the Director as well as meaningful partnerships with other Directors and the Chief Operations Officer.

Budget Responsibility — District budgets involve six and seven-figure annual amounts, including capital improvements, vehicles, materials, tools, personnel, and benefits.



The Successful Director, Decherd Operations will:

Must be able and willing to lead on a consistent basis with a positive cultural influence throughout DREMC.
Consistently demonstrates an intense intellectual curiosity that is guided by sound judgment in the best interests of DREMC.
Aptitude to create, facilitate, or champion solutions and practical implementation to benefit members and employees.
Oversee daily safety and productivity of district operations personnel while creating a team environment.
Manages a wide variety of special projects and DREMC requests that often require the use of knowledge and diplomacy to resolve sensitive issues in a manner consistent with all applicable federal, state and local laws, DREMC bylaws, and cooperative policies.
Studies, learns, and consistently applies DREMC policies, procedures, bylaws, rules and regulations, and rate schedules.
Provides support to the team entrusted to the position with appropriate leadership and respect.
Coordinates district operation activities relating to developing work plans.
Inspects field constructions in progress and completed work orders, periodically.
Supports programs to systematically inspect, maintain and enhance distribution system and facilities including annual pole testing.
Analyzes, and confirms accuracy of various daily, monthly, and yearly reports.
Reviews invoices for contract work related to the assigned district, approving, and correcting as necessary.
Responsible for complete and accurate payroll time for the district’s operational team.
Conducts accurate and consistent employee performance evaluations while maintaining a productive and professional atmosphere by coaching, training, and motivating employees.
Knowledge to apply NESC, DOT and PUC rules or guidelines related to distribution/transmission systems and facilities.
Maintains an awareness of DREMC’s goals and vision.
Maintains confidentiality while handling employee and member inquiries with sensitivity and respect.
Must offer and solicit feedback on a regular basis.
Maintains a district on-call program ensuring twenty-four (24) hour operational coverage to the membership.
Emergency response coverage as needed.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education — A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and post high school education is preferred.

Experience — Eight or more successful years of experience in at least one function of a district or operations employee is required, and three or more successful years of applicable supervisory experience is required. Operational experience could include right of way, information technology, distribution or transmission maintenance or construction, control center operations, or customer service management.

Certification/License, etc. - Certificates and/or licenses relevant to utilities, customer service, office management, engineering, distribution or transmission, financial services, etc. are preferred. Completion of a supervisor training program. (e.g. TVPPA Certificate of Power Supervisor) is preferred. Valid Tennessee Driver’s License or ability to obtain license prior to first day of employment is required as is the ability to remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — An understanding of the electric utility industry and line work procedures desired. Aptitude to gain an in-depth knowledge of the business and financial functions related to the electric utility business model. Possesses excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to deal with a variety of internal and external contacts. Effective listening skills with high observation capability. Ability to consistently achieve multiple deadlines with ownership of the process and results achieved therein.
