Data Scientist - Oil & Gas (preferred)

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Data Scientist with strong skills in data wrangling, Python scripting, and data pipeline development. This role will focus primarily on building the foundations of our data workflows extracting, cleaning, and preparing large, complex datasets for analysis and applications. While heavy modelling will not be the immediate priority, we want someone with the capability and curiosity to grow into advanced analytics and machine learning responsibilities over time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Collect, clean, and transform structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.

- Build and maintain robust Python scripts for automating data processes.

- Work with SQL databases to query, manipulate, and analyze data.

- Integrate data from external systems via REST APIs, WebSockets, Kafka and Data Warehouses.

- Develop reusable data pipelines and ensure reliability and scalability.

- Collaborate with engineers, domain experts, and business stakeholders to define requirements and deliver insights.

- Support exploratory data analysis and build prototypes for analytical models when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

- Strong proficiency in libraries such as Pandas and NumPy for data wrangling and automation.

- Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.

- Hands-on experience with REST APIs, WebSockets, and messaging/queueing systems (Kafka or equivalent).

- Familiarity with best practices in data engineering and data quality assurance.

- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

- A bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, computer systems engineering or a related discipline or completion of a college program in computer science.

Nice To Have

- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Plotly, Dash, Tableau, Power BI).

- Exposure to machine learning libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).

- Understanding of time-series data and streaming data processing.

- Oil & Gas industry knowledge, especially around completions, is a significant advantage.

- Integration experience with LLMs
