A custodian, is responsible for keeping a building clean, along with common areas and walking paths. Some businesses hire Custodians to clean outdoor facilities, such as windows, sidewalks, and landscaped areas.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
•
Cleaning: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, dusting, cleaning windows, mirrors, and other surfaces.
•
Sanitation: Maintaining clean and stocked restrooms, including replenishing supplies like toilet paper and soap.
•
Waste Management: Emptying trash and recycling bins, and ensuring proper disposal of waste.
•
Minor Maintenance: Changing light bulbs, unclogging toilets, and other minor repairs.
•
Building Security: Locking doors and windows, and reporting any security issues.
•
Supply Management: Ensuring adequate supplies of cleaning materials and other necessary items.
•
Following Safety Procedures: Adhering to safety guidelines and using cleaning products and equipment properly.
•
Communication: Reporting maintenance issues, safety hazards, or other concerns to the appropriate personnel
•
Customer Service: Responding to requests and concerns from building occupants or visitors
•
Maintaining Equipment: Ensuring cleaning equipment is in good working order and properly stored.
•
Working Independently: Many janitorial tasks can be performed without direct supervision, according to Betterteam.
Educational/Training/Experience
•
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
