The Corporate Logistics Manager role is a pivotal position within the Operational Excellence department, focusing on the development and execution of transportation policies and freight strategies. The manager is responsible for ensuring delivery timeliness, managing carrier relationships, shipping utilization, cost control, regulatory compliance, and maintaining service standards across the organization. This position, while non-supervisory, also involves mentoring shipping personnel company-wide and fostering collaboration among logistics and other departments to align logistics operations with broader corporate goals. The role requires adaptation to transportation technology advancements and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Oversees transportation budgets to ensure financial discipline and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiates contracts with carriers and logistics providers for favorable rates and service levels.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company policies.
- Mentors and collaborates with factory shipping personnel to promote operational consistency.
- Coordinate with Customer Service and sales teams to create shipping programs according to evolving needs.
- Establishes and monitors transportation performance metrics for continuous improvement.
- Update and enforce freight and shipping programs to reflect regulatory changes and corporate growth goals.
- Reports logistics performance through the Logistics KPI Dashboard.
- Formulates corporate transportation strategies balancing cost, efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Projects short- and long-term transportation needs based on business objectives and market conditions.
- Maintains accurate records in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse for safety and compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Minimum of five years' progressive experience in logistics or transportation management, ideally in a corporate environment.
- Ability to mentor and lead geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with other departments.
- Experience in contract negotiation and carrier relationship management.
- Thorough knowledge of transportation compliance, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Advanced analytical abilities with experience developing and tracking performance metrics.
- Proficiency in warehouse management systems and logistics technologies.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Requires approximately 15% travel for site visits, training or industry events.
