About the role

We are looking for a Contractor Management Excellence (CMX) Advisor, to manage the contractors who perform work at the Aluminum smelter site in Kitimat, BC. The CMX Advisor ensures that deliverables are met and in compliance with Rio Tinto standards and values. Contractor management at BC Works is strategic by the significant level of influence and management of change required to be successful across the site.

Reporting to the Contractor Management Coordinator, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto health, environmental, safety and community (HSEC) standards – actively leading and engaging in promoting our “Zero harm” culture
Apply site Contractor Management strategies
Assist company representatives to effectively manage the contractors, including contractual aspects, scope of work, risk assessments, administration support and all steps of CMX framework
Coach and mentor company representatives and contractors to ensure compliance with HSE and CMX policies and procedures
Follow up performance related KPI and provide support to managing poor performing contractors either identified through internal/external audits or safety interactions
Maintain regular communications with key stakeholders regarding contractor performance, especially those involved with the contractor management responsibilities
Support work targets in terms of quality, cost effectiveness and productivity of contractors as indicated in performance measures such as reduction in contractor spending, improvement in contractor performance and safety results and contractor price optimization
Perform leadership in the field, attend Contractor pre-shift meetings to continuously improve the Contractor Management maturity


What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
A minimum of a high school diploma. A tertiary qualification in engineering, technology, trades, or related field will be considered an asset
A minimum of 5 years of related experience in an industrial or construction setting
Supervisory and/or contractor management experience
Effective leadership skills: the ability to set direction, prioritize and achieve objectives, actively listen, and engage your team members
Clear, concise, and tactful communication with the ability to influence and drive motivation
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

It will also be beneficial if you have:

Project Management training or Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)

The base salary range for this role is $88,800 – $133,200 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
