The Engineer III, Technical Support – Gas Turbine will plan, direct, and execute procedures and technical support for construction and commissioning activities of combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) projects. This role works under the direction of the PSM Manager or Section Team Leader to coordinate activities with Mitsubishi Power Gas Turbine & Engineering Teams, Technical Field Advisors in the field, vendors, and contractors at site. The engineer will serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned projects, ensuring timely solutions to project action requests (PARs) and effective communication with project managers, engineers, and site personnel.
- Provide expert technical support for gas turbine construction and commissioning activities, including:
- Reviewing and verifying foundation work, centerline alignment, setting and leveling, and seating plate installation.
- Overseeing the installation of gas turbines on pedestals and their associated auxiliaries.
- Managing adjustments, grouting, and coupling to generators.
- Supervising gas turbine piping, SSS clutch, thrust bearing, lube oil, and control oil systems.
- Ensuring proper thermal insulation application.
- Initiate and maintain continuous communication with internal teams (HTC, TGO, MELCO) and external suppliers to ensure prompt resolution of technical issues.
- Review and revise OEM erection and commissioning procedures, and generate new procedures as needed.
- Track daily project activities, including review and assignment of PARs.
- Organize and attend weekly project calls to discuss progress and address technical challenges.
- Ensure the timely completion of the PSM Project Procedure List.
- Communicate proactively with Project Managers and Project Engineers regarding project technical aspects.
- Coordinate internally with execution disciplines and external suppliers in line with company policies and Installation and Start-up Engineering Manager direction.
- Observe and ensure construction practices comply with federal, state, and local codes, industry standards, company procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Gather and review approved documents to support construction activities.
- Study and understand project specifications, procedures, and relevant portions of the contract.
- Create erection and commissioning procedures to support gas turbine ground-up installation.
- Represent PSM in project meetings to achieve successful completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Provide timely solutions for PARs, coordinating with quality, design engineering, suppliers, TFAs, and supply chain.
- Review drawings for completeness, detail, and accuracy, and coordinate between manufacturer and company drawings.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% annually.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of experience with gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators; or 10 years of experience in power plant design and/or installation/commissioning.
- In-depth knowledge of simple cycle, combined cycle, and combined heat and power multi-shaft and single-shaft configurations of power trains and auxiliaries.
- Ability to independently compile installation/commissioning procedures for power train equipment.
- Ability to resolve complex PARs and RFIs on power train equipment.
- Expertise in specific areas of power train components and ability to support/assist with resolution of inquiries.
