Centrus Energy is seeking an experienced Construction Engineer to plan and control field execution of facility modifications and new installations at the American Centrifuge Plant (ACP) on the DOE Portsmouth reservation in Piketon, Ohio. The ACP operates under a DOE contract within existing DOE-leased facilities, requiring rigorous safety, quality, and regulatory discipline in construction and turnover activities. This supports evolving mission needs and infrastructure changes across a range of potential enrichment and processing operations.
- Serve as the construction engineering point of contact for plant infrastructure work – supporting Centrus’ modification process and acting as Site Technical Representative during field activities. Coordinate daily interface between Design Engineering, Operations, and third-party construction contractors.
- Translate design outputs into executable work packages (permits, procedures, ITPs/hold points, acceptance criteria). Author RFIs/RFCs, manage redlines, and drive as-built documentation to maintain configuration control.
- Support or lead construction scopes administered via EPC and specialty contractors – monitor cost, schedule, and performance; enforce contract requirements; and manage change orders and progress verification.
- Ensure field execution aligns with applicable codes/standards (e.g., NEC/NFPA/OSHA/IEEE), site procedures, and the ACP licensing/regulatory framework governing operations at Piketon.
- Champion industrial and electrical safety (LO/TO, arc-flash controls) and DOE/nuclear-quality expectations during pre-job briefs, hazard analyses, and audits; verify contractor compliance and immediate corrective action for deficiencies.
- Plan and witness construction tests, ensure punch-list completion, and coordinate functional testing/energization with operations to achieve Ready-for-Operations and clean handover packages.
- Provide clear field status, risks, and mitigations to project managers and site leadership; coordinate interfaces with DOE/utility stakeholders as needed for power or site services.
- Capture lessons learned and propose procedural or design feedback to reduce rework and improve constructability on future ACP/HALEU scopes. We'd Love To Hear from Candidates With:
- Five or more (5+) years in construction or field engineering for industrial facilities (nuclear, chemical process, oil & gas, or large manufacturing), including oversight of contractors and multi-discipline field scopes.
- Hands-on experience with work-package development, QA/QC inspections, welding/mechanical/electrical installation oversight, and startup/commissioning support. Familiar with RFIs, NCRs, ITPs, and as-built control.
- Demonstrated collaboration with EPCs and vendors and familiarity with progress tracking, change control, and field estimating.
- Working knowledge of DOE site operations or similarly regulated environments; ability to execute work consistent with ACP’s licensing basis and site procedures.
- Practical application of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, IEEE/NEMA; strong safety leadership record supporting high-hazard work.
- Clear written and verbal communication; decisive field problem-solving; strong stakeholder and contractor management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or related) or Construction Management from an accredited institution; equivalent experience considered.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), CM-Lean, or PE (any discipline) is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
