Position Summary
The Commercial Manager (CM) leads the commercial development of turnkey power plants, working with a range of contract structures such as Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) contracts, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Equipment Supply Agreements, and Build-Transfer Agreements (BTA). These are high-value capital projects that require an understanding of engineering principles alongside business and financial drivers.
A key part of the CM role is engaging directly with customers to shape competitive solutions, while ensuring internal alignment with execution capabilities, risk tolerance, and profitability targets. The CM works closely with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Supply Chain, and Finance to evaluate risks, structure commercial terms, analyze cost and cash flow models, and negotiate contracts. This includes commercial terms such as payment schedules, liquidated damages, warranties, and change order mechanisms.
This is a cross-functional, customer-facing role, reporting to the Director of Commercial Operations. The CM supports both the proposal and contracting phases of transactions — from strategy development and scope definition through final contract negotiation and handover to execution. This role is ideal for technically inclined professionals — such as project engineers, systems or process engineers, or sales engineers — with commercial skills. It is intentionally structured as a 50/50 blend of engineering and business responsibilities. Successful candidates will bring technical foundation and rigor to the role while honing strong commercial instincts, customer fluency, and strategic judgment.
Position Responsibilities
•Lead commercial development and coordination of project scope, schedule, and costs. Serve as the key commercial point of contact across internal departments and external stakeholders throughout the deal lifecycle.
•Assemble and modify detailed technical specifications to define the project scope. Consolidate input from technical stakeholders to ensure proposals and contracts reflect a clear, complete, and executable technical offering that aligns with customer expectations and PROENERGY’s internal capabilities.
•Negotiate terms and conditions ensuring profitability and risk mitigation, in alignment with company objectives. Evaluate and structure various commercial terms, such as payment schedules, termination schedules, liquidated damages, warranty provisions, change order mechanisms etc.
•Own the project costing process by building and validating comprehensive cost models aligned to the defined scope. Ensure models are complete, current, and support robust cash flow analysis and internal pricing decisions.
•Coordinate and consolidate multi-disciplinary input from engineering, operations, finance, legal, and supply chain teams to develop customer-aligned and executable proposals and contracts. Balance customer demands against internal stakeholder needs.
•Prepare concise executive summaries to communicate scope, risk, pricing, and strategic rationale for internal approvals at key deal stages.
•Lead customer meetings and negotiations to understand expectations, present commercial strategies, and represent technical capabilities and constraints.
•Educate customers on PROENERGY’s standardized manufacturing and EPC platform. Track any deviations and evaluate the associated impacts of the deviations.
•Develop winning proposals with effective technical and commercial content. Ensure compliance with RFP requirements and actively engage with customers to clarify requirements and align deliverables.
•Collaborate with senior leadership and business development to identify and pursue early-stage project opportunities.
•Manage project opportunities in the CRM system, ensuring up-to-date information for internal forecasting and reporting.
•Gather business intelligence on emerging opportunities, lost transactions, competitors, and energy market trends to support proposal and contracting strategies.
•Provide comprehensive contract turnovers to ensure a seamless transition to the execution team.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
•Experience in the energy or energy-adjacent industry; preferably in project engineering, process engineering, sales engineering, project management, or similar roles.
•Demonstrated interest in — or direct experience with — contract negotiations, financial modeling, proposals, or business development.
•Strong technical writing, editing, and document organization skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to gather, synthesize, and deliver (oral and written) information clearly and concisely for both technical and non-technical audiences. Must be comfortable communicating with senior/executive stakeholders.
•Ability to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, site visits, and team collaboration.
•US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
•Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Desired Qualifications
