Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00


What you'll do

The Financial Analysis (FA) Professional is an experienced financial analyst with a proven ability to develop financial

evaluation tools that are aligned with BC Hydro’s key priorities and to utilize forward thinking to provide feedback in support

of strategic business decisions across the company.

The Commercial Negotiations and Financial Analysis (CNFA) team, within the Finance, Technology and Supply Chain

business group, is responsible for developing and applying advanced analytical tools for evaluating strategic contracts and

capital projects and for managing large, complex, transactions across BC Hydro. The CNFA group also supports broader

Treasury functions by developing advanced financial analytics tools (such as Monte Carlo analysis) to inform debt

management strategy (including future debt hedging) or financial/credit risk analysis. This group is centrally located in the

Finance corporate group, to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables across the organization by ensuring strict

adherence to documentation sequence for governance requirements/approvals and developing and maintaining associated

processes and tools.

The FA professional is responsible for collaborating with professionals in groups such as Project Delivery, Integrated

Planning, Engineering, Finance, Customer Service and Regulatory as business partners and clients for core work, and to

prepare financial models that highlight trade-offs and document risks to support the advancement of key initiatives and

strategies. The FA professional also works closely with other CNFA and Treasury staff to continuously improve evaluation

processes in the two groups and applies and encourages others to improve analytics and provide feedback on other CNFA

support initiatives.

Knowledge required:

Knowledge of BC Hydro’s business and regulatory environment, including our operations, facilities, assets, programs,

projects and contracts (such as Electricity Purchase Agreements).

Knowledge and experience with analytical tools, financial modeling and commercial and financial structuring relevant to

capital planning, project delivery, IPP contracts, and business performance.

knowledge of and experience with financial instruments (including derivatives), financial liability risk management (such as


future debt hedging) and credit risk analysis.

Knowledge and experience in risk analysis and structured decision making.


Knowledge of and experience with project management practices.


Key responsibilities include:

Provide analytical support to internal clients on transactions, projects, strategies and other initiatives assigned with the


appropriate assistance from other functional disciplines.

Build meaningful relationships with internal clients by responding to Treasury-related inquiries and collaborating across

functional areas using excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively identify analytical

requirements, gather information, and communicate results in a simple and concise manner;

Build collaborative relationships within the CNFA and Treasury teams to support and improve commercial and Treasury


analytics functions;

Provide feedback on team-based decisions and understands when to ask for input, clearly articulate trade-offs and


escalate risks.

Present analysis to professional and senior management level audiences to communicate business insights and support


decisions.

Undertake work with accountability and a strong customer service focus to contribute to achieving business unit strategic


goals.

Ensure consistency of key evaluation inputs across applications.


Understand best practices around financial analysis at BC Hydro and trends in regulated utilities and the electrical


industry.

Share finance analysis skills and expertise with others by providing guidance on key initiatives to ensure consistent

adherence to financial analysis principles. Contribute to a “centre of excellence” analytics culture within BC Hydro.

Ensure delivery, quality and consistency with other CNFA team deliverables.


Provide and support a safe, inclusive and harassment free work environment.


What you bring

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Science or other relevant degree or designation (such as Chartered Financial


Analyst).

Strong experience in modeling, business, finance, project or technical leader in analytics, business process, engineering,


project management or related discipline.

At least eight (8) years relevant work experience that must demonstrate relevant knowledge and capabilities such as asset

management, operations, finance, business analytics/performance, business metrics or modeling.

Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills across a variety of formats, such as business case,

business and technical reports and presentations, regulatory submissions, etc.

Experience operating within crown corporation or government environments and familiarity with the Utility industry sector


and financial sector would be beneficial.

This is for 1 full-time regular (FTR) permanent M&P Group 44 opportunity, based in our Dunsmuir office in downtown


Vancouver, BC.
