About the Role
Performance Systems Development (PSD) is seeking a Commercial Energy Assessor to collect data on energy efficiency features from new commercial and multi-family buildings across Pennsylvania. A successful candidate will perform plan reviews and travel to commercial and multi-family building addresses to observe specific energy-efficiency related features of the buildings.
As a Commercial Energy Assessor, you will:
•Communicating and coordinating with project teams, architects, builders, and code officials in order to obtain building plans, gain site access, and ensure timely and accurate data collection and reporting
•Drive throughout Pennsylvania to active commercial and multi-family building sites, including urban, suburban, and rural areas
•Record energy efficiency observations while conducting plan review (ex. air barrier and insulation measures, heating, cooling, and hot water appliance types and efficiencies, window U-factors and SHGCs, and lighting)
•Recording energy efficiency observations, including photo documentation and performance testing (multi-family buildings only), while conducting site visits
This position reports to the Program Manager and plays a key role in helping PSD achieve the goals of the PA field studies including determining industry standard practice and identifying areas for improvement to inform future training, education, and outreach efforts.

What You Bring
•Three years’ experience performing commercial energy audits, commissioning, or similar
•Three years’ experience conducting blower door testing and duct leakage testing
•Three years’ experience performing commercial construction plan review
•Ability to identify and understand the functions of various commercial HVAC systems and controls
•Ability to identify and understand the functions of various commercial HVAC systems and controls.
•Ability to identify and understand the functions of various commercial lighting systems and controls.
•Ability to identify insulation R-values, installation grades, window U-factors and other energy efficiency features.
•Ability to identify energy code-required air barrier locations in the field.
•Commitment to meeting deliverables on time.
•A valid driver’s license
Additional Details
•Physical Demands: Frequent use of the computer or tablet requires periods of sitting and close audio-visual concentration. The ability to lift 50 pounds and walk through construction sites carrying equipment, navigate uneven jobsite terrain by foot, climb an 8-foot step ladder, and access crawl spaces. Ability to safely drive for several hours at a time.
•Work Environment: Field work is performed both outside and inside buildings in varying weather conditions. Field work will include accessing attics, basements, crawlspaces, and other locations associated within the built environment. Office work is performed remotely in an open and collaborative environment.
•Travel Requirements: Local travel can make up as much as 75% of your workday in some cases. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to withstand long car rides. Mileage reimbursement will be provided, as applicable.
