We are seeking Combustion Turbine Planning Engineer to join our Energy Resource Planning Department. Under the direction of
the Supply Options Planning Lead, will be responsible for performing staged planning for combustion turbines to support supply
planning and Integrated Resource Plan development. Activities include development of concepts, cost estimates, schedules and
performance parameters through an integrated planning approach by coordinating staff and input from consultants and other
departments.
Responsibilities:
•Lead integrated planning studies of combustions turbines from the Stage 1 Inventory Level to the Stage 4 Pre-investment
Level.
•Develop and update generalized and site-specific concepts, cost estimates and schedules for future supply options including
pre-construction and construction activities and establish in service dates.
•Responsible for establishing the engineering parameters and basis for design for combustion turbines with emphasis on
applying innovation to the technological aspects to attain safe and cost-effective concepts that fulfills requirements of the
integrated generation and transmission system.
•Develop, manage and maintain planning activity schedules and deliverables and drive their progress to completion.
•Undertake evaluation and comparison of alternative combustion turbines by integrating technical, economic, environmental,
socio-economic and other relevant factors to determine optimal solutions and make recommendations based on input
developed within the department, from other departments and consultants.
•Direct and coordinate activities conducted by cross functional teams including members from within the department, other
departments and by Consultants contributing to the staged planning studies. These studies include but are not limited to
generation design, gas supply, transmission interconnection, licensing & permitting, property, environmental assessment and
mitigation, cost estimating and risk analysis.
•Develop, maintain and deliver supply options input parameters annually for input to long term supply planning activities
including the Long Term Resource Planning Report and Integrated Resource Plan.
•Coordinate research and monitoring activities for supply options to ensure that planning considers modern technologies to be
incorporated in the conceptual planning of supply options.
•Responsible for directing, conducting and participating in engineering economic analysis and evaluations, business case
development and risk analysis.
•Coordinate activities that monitor, document and evaluate emerging technologies for advancement as potential supply
options.
•Lead and contribute to writing reports and technical memoranda documenting results of planning studies.
•Supervising, motivating, driving progress and providing guidance to staff.
•Performance evaluation and preparation of appraisals and development plans for staff.
Qualifications:

•Graduate in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of seven 7 years of directly related experience
including three years of supervisory experience or directing outsourced engineering work.
•Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a
specified amount of time).
•Demonstrated advanced ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
•Thorough knowledge of the planning, design and operation of combustion turbines.
•Thorough knowledge of generation planning, engineering, cost estimating, scheduling and construction principles and
contracting practices.
•Knowledge of the operation of Manitoba Hydro's integrated system including generation, transmission and HVDC operations
and associated loadings.
•Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and direct personnel both inside and outside Manitoba Hydro.
•Must possess initiative and mature judgment with the ability to make and implement sound decisions.
•Must display initiative in handling complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
•Demonstrated high degree of initiative, creativity and ability to motivate personnel both inside and outside of the Corporation.
•A good organizer and capable of scheduling work to meet defined objectives.
•Demonstrated experience with application of project management processes and tools to manage complex projects.
•Must obtain and maintain a current Personal Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba
Hydro policy P513.
•Demonstrated ability to carry out numerous concurrent tasks.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $51.34-$70.34 Hourly,
$98,380.88-$134,784.78 Annually.
