SUMMARY


Provide engineering support for the evaluation and enhancement of combined cycle thermal performance, including field performance testing of combined cycle power plants, preparation of CC performance models, evaluation of GT upgrades on plant equipment, and cycle and power block equipment performance analysis.



EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES


The individual must have demonstrated technical depth in one or more of the following fields:


Field performance testing of gas turbines and combined cycle power plants
Combined cycle power plant performance evaluation and power block equipment performance evaluation
Combined cycle power plant operations
Combined cycle mechanical and electrical equipment
Ebsilon Professional, Gatecycle, and/or other thermodynamic modeling tools
OSI PI, PI Asset Framework and PI Vision
Data analytics, tool development and machine learning
Equipment performance monitoring and diagnostics



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


Participate in field performance testing of combined cycles and individual components, collecting performance data, evaluating data against stability criteria, performing corrections of test data to the reference conditions, and preparation of performance test report.
Prepare thermal performance testing procedures to demonstrate compliance with contractual performance guarantees which follow the requirements of ASME PTC 46 including uncertainty analysis. This includes preparation of CC performance correction curves.
Prepare thermodynamic models using industry software of combined cycle power plants or subsets of combined cycle power plants using any combination of design information and/or operating plant data.
Evaluate thermal performance of overall cycles and individual equipment utilizing thermodynamic, and fluid mechanics engineering principles demonstrated through hand and computer calculations.
Evaluate impact of upgrades to gas turbine performance on steam cycle components (HRSG, steam turbine, pumps and heat rejection systems) and to the cycle as a whole, including cycle impact on power, heat rate and heat rejection. Determine existing equipment limits. Where necessary, make recommendations for modifications to steam cycle equipment to expand equipment limits.
Coordinate with internal groups and external vendors of power plant equipment to evaluate, define and obtain proposals for modifications to steam cycle components.
Determine the causes of steam cycle performance losses through diagnostic analysis of operational data for both steady-state and transient operation, along with physical inspection results of plant components as required.
Support the development of performance monitoring and analysis tools.
Interface with internal and external customers in office meetings and on site to effectively represent Mitsubishi Power by demonstrating technical expertise and customer sensitivity in order to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
Respond to engineering support requests.
Support Root Cause Analysis of emergent issues.
Support the Gas Turbine performance group as needed.

Overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air.



REQUIREMENTS

Education: BS degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Chemical engineering preferred. (MS a plus) from an accredited college or university.
Experience: - Up to 5 years of experience needed. Demonstrated industry experience in one or more of the areas identified in Section 2.0.
Language Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and engineering procedures. Ability to effectively present information to internal management and external customers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform detailed engineering calculations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), MS Teams, OneDrive, etc. is required. Experience with Ebsilon Professional or similar thermodynamic modeling tools. Experience with OSI PI tools is a plus.
