Equipment Operator Junior – EOJ’s are responsible for the proper operation of equipment such as conveyors, mobile equipment and hand tools. Also need to know conveyor layouts for coal, limestone and gypsum.
- - Basic knowledge of conveyors and associated equipment from unloading locations to and from storage and into the plant. Clean chutes, shovel material, general area cleaning with water and reset trip cords. Once qualified, performs coal checks, troubleshoot belts, inspect shoots, clean the belts, etc.
- Basic knowledge and operation of all mobile equipment such as front-end loaders, pans, bulldozer, skid steer and backhoe. Can perform all preoperational checks, lubricate, add proper fluids, and refuel equipment. Can properly transport material using mobile equipment.
- Has general knowledge of conveyor lubricants (Type, Location, Amount) & proper technique used to add lubricant.
- Has the ability to learn safe techniques & practices using hand tools.
- Cleans mobile equipment, assists in making repairs to unloading equipment, conveyors, bulldozers, tractors, and other coal handling equipment. Assist in cable replacements to barge unloaders and ecrane.
- Has general knowledge of the sample systems and how to process samples.
- Clears and tags coal conveyor equipment to be removed from service.
- Performs or assists in performing maintenance work/PMs on conveyors, coal handling and yard equipment; perform yard maintenance work.
- Performs duties in accordance with Company’s safety rules, operating regulations, and practices, report unsafe conditions and practices. Reports unsafe conditions and practices and must be able to lead HPI activities.
- Understands and follows the Clearance Permit System.
- Trains for and carries out assignments in firefighting, first aid and other emergency response programs, if assigned to such teams, as required.
- Plows snow, salts roadways and walking surfaces. Cuts grass and weeds. Digs and cleans ditches.
- Fuels portable heaters as required.
- Performs similar or less skilled work as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education: Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with four (4) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with two (2) years of related military experience.
Experience: Through a combination of education and/or experience must have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above. Must possess a valid State driver's license.
Abilities & Skills: Must be able to learn the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work. Must be able to learn the tools and equipment and their use and able to read, interpret and work from prints and specifications. Must be able to gain a working knowledge of OSHA and Environmental guidelines as well as all applicable operating instructions and procedures. Additionally, must satisfactorily complete and exhibit competency, in such time frames as may be established by COC, all required training to advance to the Coal Equipment Operator or vacate the Equipment Operator Junior – Coal Yard classification.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, view computer monitors and assemble parts.
This position requires working in extreme heat and cold both in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms and catwalks.
