A Waterjet / Plasma Table Operator operates and maintains CNC cutting machinery, requiring the ability to program, set up, and monitor the equipment to produce precise parts from blueprints and material specifications. Key duties include safely loading and unloading heavy materials, troubleshooting equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring final product quality and accuracy. Operators must possess strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading skills, and an understanding of CNC systems to succeed in manufacturing and fabrication environments. Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Program and operate CNC waterjet and/or plasma cutting systems, including setting up, adjusting settings, and making minor edits to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Material Handling: Safely load and unload heavy raw materials onto the cutting table using equipment like forklifts or overhead cranes, and unload finished parts.
- Quality Control: Monitor the cutting process, inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality, deburr edges, and perform necessary finishing operations.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine preventative maintenance on the machine and related equipment, diagnose and correct faults, and replace worn components as needed.
- Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols, maintain a clean and orderly work area, and ensure proper handling of materials and equipment to prevent accidents.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including time sheets, nest reports, and logs of machine issues.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to understand dimensions and tolerances.
- CNC Programming: Proficiency in programming CNC machines using CAD/CAM software or by understanding tool path data.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, drives, and high-pressure water systems.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer programming skills and experience with manufacturing and design programs. Fusion 360 is a plus.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve errors or malfunctions in the cutting process.
- Material Knowledge: Understanding of different material properties and the appropriate gases and cutting tips for plasma cutting.
- Waterjet/plasma table operators typically work in manufacturing, fabrication, and metalworking industries.
- The role often involves working with heavy materials and operating heavy machinery, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.
