The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

Chief Engineer

To manage the production of mine designs and plans and to assess the performance and effectiveness of existing designs and systems. To work with the senior management team in establishing the overall strategy for the mine and manage the engineering team. Oversee surveying, ventilation, industrial hygiene and planning.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

To manage and implement mine planning and mine design operations to maximize production efficiency and resources.

Area 2

As a member of the mine leadership team contribute to the establishment and achievement of the overall strategy and objectives of the mine.

Provide leadership to the team

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Wear PPE at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of Iamgold’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Provide safety leadership by always setting a good example.

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity

Work is advanced and specialized in its complexity and involves analysis, new methodologies and may provide specialized advice. Problem resolution requires a high degree of independent judgment. Integrates theoretical concepts or original approaches to resolve problems and complete projects or assignments.

Work is performed within general authority, receiving little direction. Ensures projects in the unit or area are completed on-time, on-budget, and to required standards, involving support or technical activities of a group of managers or professionals. Work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Provides general direction to staff with an emphasis on the execution of plans and delivery of services.
