The Certified Electrician will work closely with multiple commercial installation crews to assist with installations, standing for inspection, and completing routine and complex repair and maintenance work on all sizes of PV systems and electrical switchgear. The Certified Electrician must have strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills while working on the roof and on the ground. To succeed in this position, the candidate should be flexible to changing schedules, customer demands, and site conditions and be a team player.
Candidate MUST have an active California General Certification or C-10 and be willing to provide their certification or license number as a first step of the interview process. Candidates with expired certification/licenses or ET cards will NOT be considered.
- Gather electrical information around property from MSP to Sub panels
- Work with engineering and design team to make any necessary changes to design plans
- Lead the installation of electrical systems that interconnect our solar array to the grid power
- Ensure work performed by all electricians is of good workmanship and compliant with current NEC and local codes
- Complete solar battery installations as assigned
- Troubleshoot system problems and resolve electrical issues
- Safely plan and complete Main Panel Upgrades (MPU)
- Complete Buss Tap installations when required
- Fulfill any necessary system upgrades/repairs to support our solar equipment
- Assist with the installation of solar system, as needed
- Work with local inspectors to satisfy local requirements and expectations
- Identify and correct electrical safety hazards associated with installations
- Commission electrical equipment; test and repair
- Test operating voltages to ensure operation within acceptable limits for power conditioning equipment, such as inverters and controllers.
- Thoroughly and completely fill out job documents
- Collect data and photos
- Maintain a clean job site during job and ensure job site is clean before leaving
- Stand for inspection
- Complete PV solar inspections
- Provide support for Design and Permit Application submittals to local municipals
- Test and repair electrical equipment
- Support Main Service Panel upgrades
- Thoroughly and completely filling out service documents
- Collect data and photos for each job
- Maintain a clean job site during job and ensure job site is clean before leaving
- Apprentice Training – Supervise and train apprentice electricians to support them in becoming certified electricians.
- Provide and maintain a current driver's license and a clean driving record to safely operate a company vehicle
- Maintain truck tools and material inventory
- Provide closed loop learnings to cross functional teams
- Cross train team members and provide across role deliverables, as necessary
- Other tasks and duties as needed
- Working knowledge and experience replacing commercial electrical services and distribution panels preferred.
- Working knowledge of current NEC and local related building codes.
- Working knowledge on underground conduit runs, including directional boring.
- Ability to interpret single line drawings and PV systems from roof to meter.
- Knowledge of electrical principles as it pertains to solar interconnection/tie-in and code and how PV systems operate.
- Understanding of interconnection activities.
- Ability to read electrical blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Understanding of PV designs to identify potential failure points for all parts of the photovoltaic (PV) system.
- Proficiency with computers, modern computer software, smart phone applications, and digital cameras.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must possess a valid California General Electrician Certification and be willing and able to maintain that certification.
- Must have experience in installation and maintenance of electrical wiring and equipment.
- Must have electrical and roof racking experience
- Must be self-motivated with a strong focus on productivity, detail, and safety.
- Willing and able to climb ladders, stairs, work on rooftops and able to work on your feet for long periods of time
- Able to work safely with heights on ladders and in confined areas
- Able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks
- Able to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday
