Summit Technology Services has a contract opportunity for a Cable Assembly Design Engineer
Summit Technology Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Cable Assembly Design Engineer with strong AutoCAD proficiency to support detailed drafting and design of cable assemblies for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a solid engineering foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to translate technical requirements into accurate, manufacturable drawings. This position will be based out of our client site in Depew, NY with flexibility for a hybrid working schedule.
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed cable assembly drawings, schematics, and documentation using AutoCAD.
- Interpret engineering requirements, customer specifications, and industry standards to create accurate design outputs.
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D models, wiring diagrams, parts lists, and bill-of-materials (BOMs).
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams to ensure designs meet functional, quality, and cost requirements.
- Review and revise drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Support engineering change requests and document control processes.
- Provide technical input and troubleshooting support during prototype builds and production runs.
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to project work governed by U.S. ITAR regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience drafting and designing cable assemblies, harnesses, or related electromechanical systems.- Demonstrated expertise in AutoCAD (2D required; 3D preferred).
- Strong understanding of cable assembly construction, materials, connectors, labeling, shielding, and routing practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with additional CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 or similar cable/harness standards.
- Previous experience within manufacturing, aerospace, defense, energy, or industrial environments.
