About This Job

Burlington Hydro – Powering the Careers of Tomorrow

Are you looking for a meaningful career with an organization that values teamwork, sustainability, and community impact? At Burlington Hydro, we don’t just provide electricity—we are powering a brighter future for our community.

The Role

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Buyer. Reporting to the Manager, Supply Chain, this position plays a key role in the end-to-end procurement of goods and services, including sourcing, replenishment, vendor coordination, and expediting, while ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and services that support the ongoing operations of the utility.

This is an on-site position at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington, and is a unionized role governed by the collective agreement. Eligible employees may participate in our Hybrid Work from Home Program, which allows for remote work one (1) day per week.

What You Will Do

- Interpret purchase requisitions from various departments (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Field Services) and process accurate, timely purchase orders for materials and services

- Procure electrical utility components, consumables, and Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) supplies to support field operations, maintenance, and capital projects

- Monitor open purchase orders daily; follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and update ERP systems with current order statuses

- Identify and resolve issues impacting procurement, such as delivery delays, quality concerns, pricing discrepancies, and incomplete documentation

- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Field Services teams to ensure procurement aligns with production schedules and service requirements

- Support inventory planning by maintaining appropriate stock levels of transformers, hardware, poles, switchgear, tools, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while minimizing excess

- Manage supplier contracts, monitor contract expiry dates, and proactively initiate renewals or establish new service agreements as contracts near expiration

- Analyze and evaluate vendor quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and issue RFQs/RFPs to ensure best value and alignment with technical specifications

- Maintain and strengthen relationships with strategic vendors and electrical distributors to ensure reliable supply and responsive service

- Coordinate the resolution of non-conforming material issues, including supplier follow-ups, returns, RMA processing, and tracking of credits or replacements

- Manage and update vendor and item master data (e.g., lead times, costs, reorder points, safety stock levels) within the ERP system

- Generate procurement and spending reports, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support continuous improvement and strategic sourcing initiatives

- Work in compliance with all safe work practices, technical specifications/standards and rules/regulations as set out by the Company, the MOL, IHSA, ESA, CSA, among others

- Provide updates and purchasing insights to Operations and Engineering teams to support work order execution and job site readiness

- All other duties as assigned

What We Are Looking For

- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered

- 2–5 years of progressive experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain roles, preferably within the electrical utility or manufacturing sectors

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

- Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain principles, including requisitioning, supplier management, inventory control, demand forecasting, and logistics

- Familiarity with industry regulations, compliance standards, and ethical sourcing practices relevant to the electrical utility industry

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments, with a strong customer service mindset and a commitment to organizational goals

- Effective written, verbal, and digital communication skills; able to convey technical and non-technical information clearly to suppliers and internal teams

- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (XLOOKUP and pivot tables), Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint

- Experience working with ERP systems with MRP functionality

- Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and multitasking abilities; able to prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

- Proactive, flexible, and motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and a strong desire to support team success

- Demonstrated ability to build strong vendor relationships, negotiate beneficial terms, and resolve conflicts constructively

- Positive attitude, high level of personal integrity, and a willingness to embrace change and drive strategic initiatives forward

- Experience in the electrical industry and/or SCMP or ASCM certification is considered a strong asset

- Must be comfortable handling confidential information and maintaining accurate records for audit and compliance purposes
