UDC is hiring for a Business Analyst
to collaborate with the project team to review, analyze and evaluate GIS business systems and user needs.
The Business Analyst will document business and user requirements, define scope and objectives, and formulate systems to parallel overall business strategies. The Business Analyst will report to the Competency Leader and there may be some travel required depending on the client and project requirements.
Travel may be up to 50-75% at times, depending on client and project requirements.
The ideal candidate will be located on the West Coast or in the Pacific Time Zone.
- Determine client organization objectives and assess current GIS business processes, requirements and data against identified objectives
- Document and present findings to the client and use the as-is assessment to form later recommendations
- Recommend improvements to current GIS-related business practices based on experience, technology trends and assessments of the source system and all relevant components
- Successfully gather all necessary information to assess the current GIS system and processes by conducting and leading detailed workshops, interviews, email communication, or research in coordination with the client
- Utilize SQL, Access, FME, and other appropriate data manipulation tools to quickly organize and automatically assess data where possible
- Build use cases for proposed changes to identified processes and data gaps; build updated standard operating procedures documentation and process documentation to guide the business toward remediating identified gaps
- Construct workflow charts and diagrams for standard business processes to aid in business organization (e.g. a workflow for the as-built process, data maintenance process or asset design process)
- Recommend system or data controls based on an assessment of data quality across the GIS platform; outline any needed QA/QC tools and protocols, standards and requirements, or cleanup to be performed
- Work closely with the client project team to ensure that the GIS solution is supported and implemented as expected according to defined requirements; ensure defined requirements align technology solutions with business goals and strategies
- Create and deliver training material internally or to client teams to support change management efforts throughout the course of the GIS implementation, including PowerPoint presentations, user guides, exercises or training environment development.
- Create and maintain an RTM (Requirements Traceability Matrix) that traces user requirements, business requirements, data quality requirements, and system architecture requirements throughout the lifecycle of the project
- Conduct insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues.
- Perform and support system and interface testing, identify and/or record system bugs in an application lifecycle tracking system (i.e. Azure DevOps, JIRA, etc.)
- Ability to work closely with the assigned project manager to ensure scope and deliverables assigned meet the project contract requirements and reflect corporate standards of excellence
- Ability to estimate work efforts related to assigned project work and communicate effectively with the project manager to ensure deliverables meet the project plan and deadlines
- What we look for from you
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (GIS, Business Administration, Computer Science or closely related field)
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a Business Analyst capacity
- Gas and Electric Utility experience strongly preferred
- Experience with large-scale Systems Integrations projects preferred
- Ability to facilitate and lead client workshops and requirement gathering sessions
- Detail oriented, analytical and inquisitive
- Ability to work independently and with others, strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to receive constructive feedback and adapt to project or teams evolving needs
- Extremely organized with strong time-management skills
- Must be willing to travel per client and project requirements
- Working knowledge of GIS concepts and analytical techniques, including computerized mapping and digital data conversion, manipulation and analysis
- Experience with GIS software tools and applications including but not limited to ArcGIS, ArcFM, ArcIMS, ArcSDE, MS Visio and applications of MS Office Suite
