About This Job

Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative is looking for a Broadband Staking Technician who is responsible for the Designing and Field Staking the extension or improvement of fiber distribution lines in compliance with RUS, NESC, and other local, state, federal rules and regulations to obtain the most efficient and effective distribution system.

Job Responsibilities:

Within the limits of established policies, procedures and budgets, assumes responsibility and has commensurate authority as delegated by the Broadband OSP Manager for the following functions:

- Plan, design, and determine location of overhead and underground Fiber distribution lines, prepare paperwork associated with the staking of fiber lines and services.


- Work with GIS to provide/build/update system maps.

- Obtain right-of-way and permits necessary for new fiber service extensions and service improvements.


- Conduct search of county records to ascertain ownership of properties and disposition of rights along roads, streets and highways.


- Assist in overseeing outside contractors as needed.

- Project a positive public image and maintain satisfactory public relations by responding to consumer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.


- Maintain and submit required reports, work orders, time sheets, on a timely basis.


- Prepare staking sheets, sketches, cost estimates and other required documents for new fiber services or service improvements.


- Communicate with County Building Inspectors, local and state government officials, etc. as required.


- Use computer software to complete fiber distribution line layouts, upgrades, and relocations for subdivisions, highway projects, commercial projects, etc.


- Comply with Cooperative safety procedures.


- Provide technical assistance in areas of system design, construction and maintenance.


- Coordinate and relay information and technical instructions to construction crews and to consumers as required.


- Assist in performing field inspections of facilities.

- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing consistent with DOT regulation and Paulding Putnam Electric policies.

- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Reports to: Broadband OSP Manager


Supervises and Directs work of: N/A


External relationships: GIS/Mapping/Contractors


Specifications:


Education and Experience:

- High school or vocational school graduate or have satisfactorily completed the General Education Development (GED) and strong mathematics aptitude are required.

- Associate degree in the field of Engineering or related field is desirable.


Skills and Abilities:

- Progressive duties and skill levels expected of the employee.

- The employee must be knowledgeable of all required job skills, qualifications, responsibilities and authority expected of the employee by the Cooperative.

- Must have the ability to write legibly and record accurately.

- This position has the responsibility for planning construction of overhead and underground power lines. Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to formulate and implement detailed plans from a conceptual basis.

- Must be self-motivated to complete assigned and routine tasks on time.

- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

- Must possess both written and verbal skills and ability to do math.

- Must have computer knowledge and use of Microsoft Office.


- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

- Must possess the ability to deal with employees, members, and the general public.


Additional Expectations:

- Maintain confidentiality regarding PPEC proprietary information and other department information. Overtime may be required to complete the duties as directed. Assistance may be expected during major outages.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

- Must physically able to function in the position.

- The majority of the work schedule will be performed traveling to and working at various field locations within the service territory with some office time each day.

- Exposure to varying temperature conditions including cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees.

- Overtime may be required at times of heavy workload.

- Must occasionally lift and/or move on a daily basis 50-75 pounds.


- Must be able to walk long distances, up to 2 miles, over rough terrain.

- Must have good hearing and visual abilities.
