Are you ready to take the next step in your line technician career? Blue Ridge Energy is looking for an Apprentice Line Technician III or higher to join our team. This role is part of our structured training and progression program, designed to develop skilled, safety-driven, and knowledgeable line technicians who help us deliver reliable power and outstanding service to our members.
As an Apprentice Line Technician III or higher, you'll be hands-on in the construction, maintenance, and repair of our electric distribution and transmission system. You'll work alongside experienced line technicians while building the skills and knowledge you need to advance.
- Performing routine work on secondary and primary voltages on energized lines under supervision.
- Learning to install transformers, reclosers, capacitors, and voltage regulators.
- Operating and maintaining aerial bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line equipment.
- Assisting in substation and underground distribution system work.
- Building confidence in reading system maps, specifications, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
- Practicing and modeling strict safety standards in every task.
- Supporting outage restoration efforts in all weather conditions, day or night.

Apprentice Levels are: I, II, III, IV, Class B, and Class A.

- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in Line Technology preferred for advancement).
- A minimum of three years of cumulative line work experience for Apprentice III (more for higher classification).
- Strong knowledge of line work practices, equipment, and safety standards.
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions and respond quickly to outage situations.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL), safe driving record, D.O.T. physical, and ability to pass all required screenings.
- Commitment to teamwork, continuous learning, and delivering excellent service to our members.
- Resides within a 30-minute drive to our Alleghany District office.
- Regular schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or four days a week, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Outage and emergency response: required regardless of weather, time of day, or holiday.
