We’re looking for a TS&E Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Technician 3

What you’ll do:
•You’ll be based out of our Pearland, TX operations center.
•You’ll have an opportunity to work overtime and weekends, and travel (upon short notice).
•Perform functional and performance tests, repair, and preventative maintenance on existing BESS fleet to make equipment ready for hire
•Prepare BESS for specific customer-facing projects, including custom programming and parameters into package controllers, inverters, and battery management systems, and implementing specific machine settings for associated equipment including generators, and adjustable circuit breakers
•Test and validate new BESS including new capital expenditures and equipment from new vendors, and help develop reports detailing performance results, technical advantages and disadvantages, and recommended action.
•Perform root cause analyses of equipment failures, submit nonconformance reports, and assist with warranty issues.
•Identify and replace bad BESS batteries/cells, and apply battery calibration procedures to balance chemical energy storage and cell voltages
•Travel to customers’ project sites to install, commission, and test entire microgrids including BESS, generators, transformers, load banks, and switchgear including high voltage (over 1,000 Volts to 35,000 Volts).
•Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring and equipment using hand tools and power tools
•Use test instruments such as multimeters, ammeters, power quality analyzers, insulation testers, ground testers, and turns ratio testers
•Participate in officially sanctioned training courses to help spread knowledge and experience throughout the business.
•Give ad hoc one-on-one training and lead other technicians on BESS products
You’ll have the following skills and experience:
•High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
•Excellent verbal and written communication
•10+ years of formal technical training and work experience within the power generation or similar industry, particularly with the installation, fault finding, repair, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical switchgear, transformers, engines, 3-phase generators, voltage regulators, governors, machine controllers, rectifiers, inverters, and batteries
•Outstanding safety record and knowledge of lockout/tagout and use of electrical personal protective equipment (PPE)
•Understands how to set up and use test instruments, including electrical multimeters and voltage detectors
•Exceptional computer skills in a Windows environment – both hardware and software
•Understands the relationships between voltage (absolute instantaneous and RMS), frequency, and power triangle – P, Q, and S and can perform algebraic calculations.
•Ability to move or lift objects, typically less than 50 lbs.
