Bandsaw Cutting Operator

Position Overview:

The HEM Saw Operator plays a critical role in the steel fabrication process by operating and maintaining the HEM Saw machine to cut steel materials according to specified dimensions and requirements. The operator ensures accurate and quality cuts while following safety protocols and contributing to efficient workflow in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. HEM Saw Operation:

- Safely and efficiently operate the HEM Saw machine to cut steel materials.

- Set up the machine, adjust cutting parameters, and select appropriate cutting speeds.

- Position and secure steel materials on the saw bed for accurate cuts.

- Monitor the cutting process to ensure precision and quality.

2. Material Handling:

- Operate overhead crane to safely handle and transport steel sheets or plates to and from the saws to ensure efficient production flow.

- Organize and maintain an inventory of raw materials for efficient workflow.

3. Reading and Interpretation:

- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, technical drawings, or other specifications.

- Understand and follow the specified dimensions, tolerances, and cut requirements for each job.

- Accurately measure, mark, and position steel materials based on the provided specifications.

4. Quality Control:

- Inspect cut pieces to verify they meet required specifications and quality standards.

- Identify and address any deviations or issues that may affect the quality of the cuts.

- Maintain attention to detail and strive for precision in all cutting operations.

5. Machine Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as blade changes, lubrication, and inspections.

- Troubleshoot minor machine issues and perform adjustments as needed.

- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance requirements to the appropriate personnel.

6. Safety and Compliance:

- Always adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.

- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures.

- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring the safe operation of the HEM Saw machine.

7. Communication and Collaboration:

- Collaborate with team members, such as fabricators, or supervisors, to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of projects.

- Communicate any challenges, equipment issues, or quality concerns to relevant personnel.

- Participate in team meetings and provide input on process improvements or operational efficiencies.

8. Documentation:

- Maintain accurate records of production data, including quantities, dimensions, and any other required information.

- Record materials used and completed tasks for tracking, reporting, and inventory purposes.

Qualifications and Skills:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Previous experience operating a HEM Saw or similar horizontal band saw machine.

- Strong understanding of blueprints, technical drawings, and measurement tools.

- Knowledge of steel materials, cutting techniques, and safety procedures in a manufacturing environment.

- Attention to detail and ability to work with precision.

- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

- Good communication and teamwork abilities.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

- Able to lift and carry 60 pounds.

- Able to stand for long periods of time.

- Ability to stoop and bend.

- Able to reach above head.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
