The Automation and Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing automation systems to support both existing operations and the creation of new product lines. This role combines technical expertise, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-performance control systems that drive safety, efficiency, and business growth.
Duties
- Design, develop, implement, and test control logic using Rockwell suite, including configuring I/O and creating/modifying graphical user interfaces.
- Provide support for deployed control systems by troubleshooting and resolving issues to minimize production downtime.
- Develop and execute plans for maintenance and replacement of legacy control systems and instruments.
- Collaborate with Business Intelligence and Software teams to identify opportunities for improving control strategies and enhancing process performance.
- Leverage data visualization, trend analysis, and dashboards to monitor and optimize process performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all control systems, programming logic, configuration changes, and system architecture.
- Ensure documentation changes comply with Management of Change (MoC) procedures.
- Lead or support automation projects, including system upgrades and new equipment integrations.
- Define project scopes, timelines, budgets, and manage external contractors as necessary.
- Provide technical training and guidance to maintenance and operations personnel.
- Coordinate electrical hardware testing and verify system operation during Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
- Stay current on industry trends and evolving technologies.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment and safety-first culture.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional on-call availability for nights and weekends due to the 24-hour nature of the oil & gas service industry.

Qualifications

Skills & Abilities Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or a related Engineering/Technology field.
Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in Automation, Control Systems, or a related field.
Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with Rockwell automation tools and PLC programming.
Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical for electrical control system design and documentation.
Basic understanding of NFPA 70 and electrical systems.
